So, racism by Starbucks or just two guys who wouldn't buy a cup of coffee?

We used to do SFVBike night at a Starbucks, but the police would always show up and kick us out, because we were loitering/trespassing. STVBike Night is no longer.

Police always fuck with bike nights, but that's a different issue. The strip mall owner complains to the city that "the bikers" are taking over his parking lot and "scaring" people.

I fail to see why this needs repeating: We all realize businesses can ask non-payers to leave. Nobody is denying that.

The issue is how these particular black people were treated. If they were treated differently just because of how they look, that's wrong. If they were treated differently because they were repeat non-payers in the past, then that's understandable. But this particular manager has been shown to exhibit racist views, so...... yeah.

And they have a leg to stand on, because no one is buying any coffee. If the register was going "CHA-CHING CHA-CHING", there would be little issue. Only the people acting like assholes would be told to leave.

I call complete and utter bullshit of the highest order.
I'll bet you a crisp one hundred dollar bill that I can go sit in any Starbucks of your choosing without buying a thing and sit on my ass for more than ten minutes.

I have never (NEVER) been asked to leave a Starbucks.

EVER.

yea but did you ask to use the restroom?

FUCKING CHECKMATE, BRAH.

If the issues are these particular black people and a particular store manager then its specific to them and not in general Starbucks right? That BTW, is worth repeating.

Your words.

Actually it's against the law, which has nothing to do with right or wrong.

Freedom of choice also includes serving who you want to or not and for any reasons. Freedom.....

Right and wrong are value assetments based solely on a person's concepts of reality. Which are then used to limit freedom.

You may not like the concept, but that does not make it right or wrong.

Every Starbuck's policy? Since when? I frequent 10-12 different ones, and sit around for several hours without buying anything.

Either you guys are lying, or you dress/act like homeless scrubs and that's why you're getting asked to buy something.

Sit around for hours at 10-12 different starbucks? Why?

The issue is my white ass could probably hang out at the Starbucks in question all afternoon without buying anything and nobody would say word one to me.
Until you spoke with a Spanish accent, Senor'
:laughing

Back in the day, I used to wait for a blind date at the Starbucks. Once I waited 20 minutes and my date texted me not to get a coffee because he wanted to buy my drink. I don’t recall anyone asking me any questions or giving me the stink eye. Obviously, YMMV :sarcasm
I didn't realize the first Starbucks opened in 1971! :afm199 :teeth

I love being lectured about how it's illegal/immoral to spend time at a store without buying anything by people who spend time on a forum that they've never contributed to. :laughing

I frequently use Starbucks as a temporary office when I’m traveling for work. They have WiFi and it’s more comfortable than the drivers seat of my truck. I’m typically dressed like a construction worker, dirty jeans, boots, and work shirt. I’ve spent many hours at many different locations, buying coffee only occasionally, all over the country, and never once, not one single time in hundreds of accumulated loitering hours, been asked to leave.

But hey, consistent application of company policy.

Well one reason, I've scored with three different girls I've met at Starbucks. Why else would a non coffee drinker go there.

And now we know who has been hitting on all the female Baristas!

Its people like you contributing to all the long lines.:laughing

We had one douchebag who hit on every new attractive woman who came to the 24hr fitness in Richmond during the hours he was there, not surprising, we didn't see those women back again, he was like a homing missile, every time he was there. :thumbdown

I think that somebody must have had a talk with him, one day he stopped doing it and within a week he was gone.

Only regarding behavior and not race:

Is there any data that shows how many laptop/phone/bag thieves bought something in the coffee shop before stealing or did most just enter, loiter or use the facilities, scope out their victims and grab/run?

Anyone here ever had their possessions stolen by a grab and run criminal while in a coffee shop and what do you think of stores trying to keep out loiterers?

Since no one responded to this... I had a buddy who worked at the Philz near SJSU while we were in school. Pretty frequently people had their laptops/bags/phones stolen from there. The thieves were usually in and out in a matter of minutes.
