So, you turn diving down to the Titanic into a tourist business..what could go wrong?

Certainly the full Titanic experience, just like the captain that went full speed into an ice field at night.

I personally will not work for anyone that has that type of attitude towards safety and would show anyone working for me the door, post haste, if they expressed opinions like that.

Like I said earlier in the thread, there is a tendency for successful people to think they have everything figured out, and that they are smarter than everyone else by doing some value engineering. That is all well and good when you are creating phone apps or social media software, if it fails nobody gets hurt. Not great when life safety is involved and your sub is crushed like a beer can on the bottom of the ocean.

^ That. "Move fast and break things" has it's limits.

on my tombstone I want written: "Do you know how many people just died while you read this? Move on!"

:laughing

No tombstone for me.

My daughter will take my ashes out of the plastic bag inside a cardboard box and toss them over the fence into the pauper's field out back! :laughing

Did the same with my Dad's ashes but it was on a pier off Miami Beach.

Highly illegal.

The folks fishing were not amused to be covered in a cloud of ash dust.

We laughed and ran.

Our cats get nice carved wooden boxes that sit on shelves next to the fireplace mantle.

Mom ended up part in Big Sur and part in my compost bin.

My Dad's ashes were released from a plane last Saturday up in the Lake Shasta area. There's a place up there where it is allowed. Step mom's idea.

It was probably her idea to give his 4x4, stick shift Hemi Ram, his boat and all of his guns, including the one's I shot as a kid, to my step sister's husband... Just found out about the truck and boat this weekend. :mad

Oh well. Make a will everybody! You never know when you (or your Dad) will get killed by a semi!

That sucks.

We can make fun of folks for showing empathy for a bunch of poor brown people who died after being forced to make an impossible choice.

But if you don't show empathy and instead make fun of some uber rich people who ignored glaring safety issues and decided to take a ride on a home made deep sea submarine so they could treat a shipwreck 2 miles under water like a tourist attraction, that's frowned upon.

BARF is an interesting place like that.

Never mind what the topic of the thread was. Keep your political bills hit out of this.

Plus, it's an incredibly flawed grade school level of false equivalence.

I disagree. I think the scope of this conversation is actually uniquely broad. Sure, we can divide it up and keep more political angles out of the sink because Dennis would like us to and I'm happy to oblige him. But, to ignore the layers of this story or chastise anyone for speaking on them seems unfair to me.

I'm struggling to think of another major event that touches as many aspects of society as this one does.

If you wanna have a talk about this in the poly sink im game. I think there are a lot of legit ways to compare the two events.

Can be done without poli I think, but show the thread on the boat accident so we can all compare the response. Barfers can be pretty calloused, but I doubt that there's a thread on here where barfers are making fun of people that were saddened by a hundred kids that drowned to death. Normally I'd say prove me wrong, but if I'm wrong, please don't, because it would be even more disappointing than normal.

Ohh, maybe I'm not quite getting you. I'm not really thinking much about the Barf response or the question whether or not is ok to care about dead people we don't know. That's not I discussion I care to have.

I'm thinking more like: it's fair game to compare the sinking of a refugee boat to the sinking of a billionaire's adventure sub and how the world reacts to each. I think that's a more interesting discussion.

Read the post that Andy quoted.

It is totally fair to compare the global response to the two events. Even though it's easy -> money. Not to imply that this isn't totally accurate, but $$$>color first, white>brown when all else is equal second.

I don't even like the deep end of the pool. I'm not going to fuck around with the depths of the ocean even if I had fuck you monies.
