That gives me a safe margin, since I know I can go to 240miles without hitting reserve (5.8 gal tank).

My last fill up showed me getting 62mpg! Because I had a massive tail wind from the storms I was running away from :laughing

I would have to second your option to "play it safe". I don't know what type of gas meter your bike has, but mine is just a light. I'm yet to run out, but i've had a very close call when riding it up from LA via 101. I had already gone 140 miles, but saw no gas light. I see an exit, and figure i'm making good pace so no reason to stop. Right as I am passing the exit, i see a sign saying "no service for 45 miles." My gas light turned on. I did the next 45 miles in full tuck, at 6k rpm. I was scared shitless, as it was one of the long streches along 101 wher eyou're in the middle of nowhereville. When i filled up, i had exactly .03 gal left in the tank. Mos def my closest call.

More from today, kinda ticked, I only made 665 miles today, mostly due to construction on I-70 and I-71 in Ohio, and three people deciding to kill themselves in a big car wreck in ohio. Took me 1 hour to go 2 miles :mad I was hoping to be in Pensilvanyia tonight, but sitting in the heat and humidity did me in, when I stopped for gas and got off the bike I fell into the gas pumps and had to haul myself back upright..:loco

The heat was getting me early, somewhere in indiana I stopped for gas and topped off my oil, then forgot to put the cap back on, so I take off and realize what I've done just before I get to the highway. Look down and my leg and the left side of the bike is sprayed with oil. Lets just say I topped off again :laughing

Before I hit ohio I had a good pace going, I've been getting 60mpg for the last few stops, so I went 240, then 236 miles straight on a couple gas stops.

Anyhoo some brief photos..

Mmmmm...sooooo greeeeen

I love the scenery out here, so freakin vibrant.

And there is something I realized I missed.

While tooling along in the heat and humidity (something folks in CA probably haven't experienced like midwesterners have), I smelled someone having a BBQ..

Now, that by itself smells good..But there is something else added to it when it is a warm, humid day..It just made it smell so much better, made it smell like home :)
