Note that the headline says the barista "wrote" the word on the cup, it looks printed to me. I don't go to Starbucks, do they write or print the names on the cups?

In any case, does this look like what its being made out to be or something printed by the system to indicate something else?

What do you think that cup of whatever will cost?

Printed / wrote ... someone typed in the word "beaner" and that's just shitty.

I've seen both happen, I think it depends what system they're using. I know all mobile orders I've seen are printed out on stickers, though. Not to victim blame, but wouldn't it be shitty if they put that themselves through the app, and are trying to cash grab after the "undisclosed settlement" in Philly?

At least 5 figures plus maybe a six figure donation to a Latino Community group in the area.

Curious what Mexicans think about "beaner" as a slur. Doesn't seem like a hard-R type of hateful slur to me, like dago or something, kind of a meh.

Regardless it is mean spirited and unprofessional or a stupid joke

Well shit, I know what's on the agenda tonight. :laughing

If you buy from Starbucks, do you look at the label?

When they make up the drink, do they call out your name or just stick it on a counter and everyone just grabs theirs? I've been to coffee places (Philz) where they just call your name ( if they know you) or the drink and you grab it.

Seems like if they call out the name they'd have yelled out Chocomackia for Beaner. They'd remember Beaner was the slur for Pedro and they'd remember Pedro?

I went down to our SoCal office a couple months ago...one of our Project Engineers strolled in, who happens to be Mexican. I asked where he was all morning. He said he had to go look at a job outside of L.A. I asked how it looked. And he said, "It's alright, there's a ton of beaners down there, though."

I didn't follow up with the comment but I took away that it wasn't hateful slur, sort of like dago.." But I wasn't gonna start throwing around the term.

Seems like you're more concerned with asking questions about the label over the fact that some assclown wrote beaner on somebody's drink, which is the real problem and a really fucked thing to do.

Focus on the issue.

I don't know anything about La Cañada. Is it some kinda white enclave or what? I mean, isn't LA overwhelmingly Hispanic anymore? WTF....I mean, if it was Missouri or something. I wonder if they write out other ethnicities??? Because it seems like a non-Hispanic would be more noteworthy than opposite.

Kinda stumped. And I never get printed labels either, but then I only get hot drinks there so....is this only for icy stuff or whut?

It's offensive, period and worthy of mention, unlike zillions of accused micro-aggressions that weaken our overall Outrage-o-Meter.

If we're going to call it the "N word" than this should be called the "B word".

Kentucky Fried Movie! Was just talking to the neighbor about it, he had never heard of it. Ahhhh the stoner flicks of years past...

My impression was that if you ordered in person you got a hand written name, if you order using the app you enter a name and it's printed on the label. Maybe things have changed though.

It seems that the newer stores print now, and it's only a matter of time before all the stores will use print outs, on everything.
