Stock Thread 2018

I look at it often enough. :(
As I said I know I should, but there is something nice about just emailing my doctor when I need something and not running all over town for x-rays.
The max for hsa is 5k right?

up to $3450 as an individual, $6900 for a family annually. an addtl $1000 if you're >=55y.o.

but there is something to be said about having found a doctor you respect and trust with health and medical care/decisions, Kaiser or not

The S&P 500 is made primarily of large cap, some mid cap ... I am beginning to think that buying more into large cap index funds make sense in today's market volatility.

Don't index funds always make sense. Mixed with a small position in lottery tickets.

VOO is Vanguard's S&P 500 ETF. SCHX is Schwab's large cap ETF, tracks a market-cap-weighted index of the 750 largest US companies.

Ok this list they are both categorized as Large Blends and are middle ranked: https://money.usnews.com/funds/etfs/rankings/large-blend

The Schwab ETF's bring the benefit of no commission and very small fees.

I've got Kaiser. I wish I could have an HSA.

Reading that Docusign and SmartSheets IPOs will do well.

I'm might jump in on some Docusign if they're around $22 a share.

That's a great point about the ETFs. Sometimes overlooked.

I'm not sure if I am ready to also take on the challenges of managing a health savings account.. does that mean you guys are investing a portion of your money in case of Health costs? Like a 401k for Cancer?

And why does having Kaiser prevent us from having an HSA? Wouldn't that be a separate account we can sign up for directly?

HSA is exactly that.

AFAIK HSA's are only compatible with high deductible plans, from any provider. I have a Kaiser HSA plan.

On the other hand my work doesn't offer Kaiser HSA. Ones they do offer is through blue shield I believe.

I read that Worldcom was a great investment!

I was going to buy a bunch of AIG after they were caught partying with their bailout money as kind of a sarcastic/pessimistic/mockery of our ridiculous society. I'd have made my money back tenfold if I'd have done it. It's in line with something I've been discovering about the market over the years, which is that traditional investing is fine, but today there's a lot more to it. If you could invest with a brain that's like 90% slightly smart conniving douchebag with maybe 10% logic only when it's called for, you'd crush it.

Its looking like FB is out of the doghouse. Bet it cracks 200 within the next 1-2 years. 20% wouldn't be anything to sneeze at.

Sold SCHX today for a short term gain, and some covered calls on MRK.

Had some extra cash lying around. Decided to make extra payment to pay down mortgage, instead of investing. Not sure it makes the best financial sense, but having debt is annoying to me.

That move is always a winning bet

A good move, UNLESS you haven't already maxed out your Roth. Money in a Roth not only grows tax free, but is withdrawn tax-free as well.
