Sur Ron Fullsize Electric Dirtbike

Just yesterday rode my latest e-bike conversion up Hwy 9 , from the gas station to 7 miles up , not quite to the top at Hwy 35,
It has a cheep ( $ 300 hub motor that is rated at 500 watts but I was putting a little over 1,000 watts through it with the 7 % average grade ) $ 100 48-72 volt 30 amp max controller .
I was using a 14s 1 p Hobby King 10 amp hour lipo pack , ( 4 x 7s packs that are 5,000 mAh each with home made series / parallel wire harness )

The pack would have gotten me up to the top even though I charged it to only 90% ,
However
The long steep grade of Hwy 9 was just about to cook / melt the cheep hub motor. It and the wires coming out of it to the controller and controller was very hot.
Just a few rides on this my latest conversion and I am already thinking about a larger more powerful hub and controller for it.

I had as much fun going up 9 as on my Sport Bike, because at 16 mph I had plenty of time to take in all the sights , I saw things I have not seen before of nearly 40 years of riding up 9 on Sport Bikes and a Car.

I coasted down at 27-35 mph until just down from the Campground .

A while back I converted a mountain bike with a 250watt mid drive electric motor and 6s lipo. I wanted something I could rip up trails with. It could climb pretty well especially since you can take advantage of the gearing. I took it to bike parties also haha I remember I could holeshot off the light in the highest gear and pedal and easily get to 25MPH. Unfortunately I fried the motor trying to over volt it and the bike just sits now.

I should try a ride up hwy9 sometime would have to trailer it though. I have ridden up metcalf and sierra road hill climbs/downhills and the Sur Ron will get up it not very fast though like at 30mph. No overheating at all, they seriously overbuilt the Light Bee. I'm planning to get an ASI controller in the future so I can make it really rip. The Storm Bee I'm hoping can get to maybe 70mph. The thing that sucks is if you run out of power you can't pedal haha.

This is the latest ride I did up Sierra was testing out new Michelin Pilot Street tires, the stock supermoto tires are garbage.

I have one of the cheapy 1000w rear hub drive kits from eBay that I've been waiting to install on a Specialized Pitch. Just scored some 4s 10ah packs for $38ea, so it's finally going to happen. I'm sure it'll be a tease and make me want something like your Sur-Ron...

Woot there it is the Storm Bee has landed. I like that it has a cradle for the motor now so you can have a decent skidplate now. Weighs in at 277lbs like a normal dirtbike weight I guess. It's 2x the weight of the Light Bee and some change.

If that were true that's a pretty amazing amount of torques I don't know how they arrived at that figure. A Energica puts down about 150 lb-ft so I doubt that is true though.

Seems to be a 7/8 size bike, about halfway between a crf230 and a crf450.

I just googled the conversion but 520 Nm is converting to 369 ft lbs.

The alta MXR was 120 ft lbs

19/17? So it's a 3/4 size bike like a crf230?

The MX version runs 21/19 and everything else seems identical.

7/8 sounds about right and fun. When you calculate seat height and wheelbase. Considerably smaller battery than the MXR. Just a porky thing but in line with the Alta MXR also

Ahhhh right on, I was looking at the DS version. That brings the seat height up a bit, only about 1.5" lower than a standard dirt bike, which isn't too bad. The weight is fine, pretty much right where any 450 is at all topped up.

FWIW, a Sur Ron X won a hair scramble. This was posted last week.

That's actually the sort of thing I'm more interested in.. some sort of MTB / dirt bike 100-150lb hybrid.

Doesn't bother me - it would be fun as hell to ride! Make it 100lbs, 40-50 miles of range, and the equivalent of something like 25hp... That would be ridiculously fun to ride off road.

I wonder how much it will cost. $6000?

Yeah cost is going to be a big one the reason I bough the Light Bee because it was cheap for an electric motorcycle/dirt bike. They've got to have it cheaper than a FX at least. All these talks of a trade war with China I hope it doesn't affect the cost o_O'

But wow I am surprised they're going to start selling it by the end of the year! That was quick must've had it baking in the oven for some time ago then.

The Light Bee is very close to that 125lbs, 30 mile range, and you can get an ASI controller to boost the power.
