Sur Ron Fullsize Electric Dirtbike

It looks like it has some kind of gearbox. I see a sight glass also so it might has some kind of liquid cooling.

Looks pretty cool! Little odd how the shock seems to angle backwards.

Yeah it does doesn't it probably has something to do with the linkage.

Ok, totally uninformed question here... How does one charge one of these? We have car charging stations at work, can I use one of those? These don't have enough range to make a round trip for me as a commuter. I'm guessing I can use 240v/120v at the house (does it use some special charging adapter at the house?) but if I can't charge at work it's going to be a long walk home :(

I'm thinking this will be household outlet only and the charger will accept 120-240vac input and you just swap the IEC cable for whatever outlet you're connecting to.

Well we don't know yet as the bike isn't in production stages yet. But.... I have a Sur Ron Light Bee and it is OFFBOARD charging. Meaning the charger is seperate from the bike. So if you wanted to charge your bike you would either need to carry the around with you or have another one handy where your going like stash one at your workplace. The Light Bee charges at off of a 120V outlet also, I don't think there is a 240V version at least not for the US version.

These are dirtbikes and having a charger onboard adds weight to the bike. The Alta Redshift also used an offboard charger. So you won't be able to charge at public charging stations.

Bump, What is the latest info on this bike ? Pricing yet ? Can it be bought Direct or will it go through Luna with their markup ?

What are the specs on the charger? I know that with my fiat charger it is listed as level 1 120v but the sticker shows 220V also, so you can run 220v to it and get double. Worked great for my car, free upgraded charger.

Here's the latest thing with this bike it's a TON of fun :)

They were selling the Ludicrous Bikes few months ago, which was a limited edition run and only certain people could buy it. It's like a custom modified Luna Cycle Light Bee.

They are selling the Black Edition bikes now with the Rock Shox, RST Killah, and now I guess DNM Volcano forks. They seem to change the forks all the time o_O' $3900 not too bad I bought mine used for $4000

They sell the MX version for $3300

don't forget to factor in shipping and tax.

I don't think importing it is worth the hassle. It'll probably wind up costing the same or more. I did see one on CL for $1700 I wish I'd snatched it just for the battery alone.

Also couple upgrade have popped up for it. There is a new Sur Ron tapered rollerbearing headset that upgrades the bicycle headset to a motorcycle style tappered rollerbearing design. There is a custom Luna Cycle belt kit for it also if you wanna be super stealthy.

It's not a level anything like I mentioned it is an OFFBOARD charger. There is no charger onboard. Like my Victory Empulse TT has a onboard level 1/2 charger. The Light Bee has no such thing, it has the actual charger seperate. You plug it straight into the battery. There's no J1772 connector.

As for specs it work at 10 amps current on 110/120volts. So you figure about 1200watts is the power. I suppose that is about level 1 charging speeds. I bought a 2000watt generator and it charges it just fine. I wish there was a way to adjust the current to like 5amps or 2 amps so I can actually charge it in my van while I'm driving.

Also I found out the battery doesn't charge below freezing 10C recently =/

At $ 3,900 for a proper equipped one before Tax and Shipping

= apx $ 4,600-$ 4,700

I remember when you could buy the $ 3,300 one direct from the Mfg. for
$ 1800 plus shipping . Back when the Sur Ron first came out.

When a middle man/company gets their hands on something often times they bump up the price that leaves many of us out of contention for being able, fincancialy able to buy one and/or it bumps the price up enough to look at other products . This the case for the Sur Ron .

Just Saying ... cause I really would like to have gotten one .

The way I see it is it's expensive for an Ebike but it's cheap for a dirtbike. You figure the Alta is like 2x or 3x more expensive. I know you can't really compare the two but that's what's on the market if you want an electric dirtbike well I guess in the Alta's case it no longer on the market. What do you have left is the Zero FX which is like 2x the price. And I guess there's the KTM and Cake Bike but I've never seen the KTM and I have seen a Cake bike but it's like Alta prices.

Luna Cycle imports a huge container of them but they need to store them, pay import taxes, they order to US specs, etc... They have to make money somehow. I wish they sold the homologated ones like Europe has so we can really street legalize it.

The battery alone is $1600, you can probably import one for around $1000. So according to your price the bike itself is like $600. The controller itself is around $500.

My suggestion is try to find a used one if you can, at least you can avoid the tax and shipping.

I have been tempted to buy a third Alta because they seem to be less than $9K with very low hours. But I already have two, eh?

I thought they discontinued the KTM? I only see the kids SX-E 5 bike now.

Some info on the Storm Bee at Sur Ron USA. Man 96 volts must fly! It mentions a gear box also looks interesting. Probably more info will come out at EICMA 2019. I'm thinking instead of going with the belt like on thhe Light Bee they went for a gearbox.

Segway owns a chunk of Sur Ron so I guess they just took the Light Bee and rebranded/badged it. I heard the Segway has some kind of bluetooth interface.

382 torque? Are you sure it's not 82?

According to webpage

The Storm Bee puts out 520 Nm (382 lb-ft) of torque at the rear wheel. Between the available power and torque, the Sur Ron Storm Bee can climb angles of 45º. For those keeping score at home, that’s a 100% grade.
