Any felon in possession of a firearm should get mandatory life in jail, 1st offense.

You want GUN LAWS - do it like that.
Until we do that with firearm laws, they should stop messing with law abiding people's rights to them.

However, I strongly believe that the what is going on in Oakland (Black on Black killings) is an epidemic and it needs to be stopped.

I believe so strongly in this that I'm going to march (by myself) on International Blvd with a sign that says: "Stop the Violence!"

I called my good buddy, an OPD beat cop, and asked him how dangerous this would be. He said I'll be fine so long as I'm not out there when the verdict is read.

I'll be there this friday from noon to 2pm.

I say leave it be. I'd rather have all the f*cktards in one location rather than having them spread into other neighborhoods, like Antioch for instance. Used to be a nice city until Oakland & Richmond rejects started migrating out there.

When was Antioch a "nice city"?
I grew up both there and Pittsburg.

In the 80s and 90s, I lost several friends to violence.
Antioch has been a shithole since at least 1985.

Imagine if all the gang bangers instantly went into a full blown acid trip at the dosage of over 300 hits each? They would all curl into the fetal position and pray for mommy. Maybe their doors blow off the hinges and they come back with a little respect for life?

Going along the line of cost, hypothetical here: What do you think would happen if everyone who lives in Oakland who has an active warrant in the system, was arrested on the same day, how much do you think it would cost the city just to arrest, book, transport and process let's just say 500 people?

Kind of reminds me of that scene where a criminal enters a bar for a stickup...except everyone turns around and points a gun at him!

I don't think more pentalties against automatic weapons will solve any problems. CA's firearms laws already prevent regular citizens from owning autoweapons anyway and they clearly aren't concerned about breaking any laws...

I actually think it should be MORE like the old west - let everyone have a gun and sort them out with body bags.

True. A buddy of mind that got stabbed in front of my house in Hudson Court in Antioch was stabbed by guys that came from West Pitt.

Another time my friends and I got shot at, the shooters came from West Pitt.

It was after that shooting that my mom decided enough is enough and we moved.

Not just overtime for OPD... Think of the booking fees that the city has to pay the county if they had to book everyone into Santa Rita. Even if the Sheriff drives a few jail busses and does "field booking" the city still gets charged. I know Oakland does have a city jail, but it's not that big.

IIRC the last big LA riots cost about 700+ million in property damage and resulted in 50+ deaths. What do you think the cost was to the city in terms of Police, Fire, EMS? They were sending fire engines from up here to go fight fires...

If you were to suspend civil liberties in any major city unless there was a disaster, it would be like trying to use gasoline to put out a volcano. In the long run it costs everyone, it could be your pocketbook, it could be your life.

Well, I think you are on the right track if you start w/ getting a Mayor who at least appears to give a shit.

Rolling tanks into Oakland isn't really always a good solution.

My solution is simple: lift all firearm-related legislation in the state and declare open season on gang members all year round. Form a citizen militia and it will take care of the problem in a week.

As for tanks - nah, not going to be particularly useful. I'd go for air support tho, now that's useful.

IIRC Sheriff Crazy Joe in Maricopa County, AZ formed the Sheriff's Posse that is practically a citizen militia, when folks started complaining about rising crime rates- he said- do something about it- go arrest people.
