Suspend CIVIL LIBERTIES in Oakland -

Pick up a gun and get to work then tough guy. Yeah a real badass who is scared of people with hoodies and dogs. What a joke. :laughing

I agreed with you and this is your response?

Goodness!

And where did I say I was afraid of hoodies and dogs?

Listen up Mark, I'll be walking International Blvd this friday from noon til 2pm with a sign that says "Stop the violence".

Care to join me?

It's not my plan. I'm just saying. :dunno

I'd think as someone who says they are all about the constitution and american ideals you would be a little more outraged by even the suggestion of this thread.

For all practical purposes, Oakland is not going to get much better or much worse. That's a given. One of the things that has happened is vastly reduced welfare and assistance programs, and that is driving inner city poor out of the city. Believe it or not. When the cops get cut back, it will be about where we started a couple years ago. The crime will continue to suck, and most of the murders will be Acorn or in the outer Avenues. That's the way it is. I am neither dismayed nor jubilant. I have been here 22 years and it was far worse in my neighborhood then. ( At least back then the phone lines were shot out with automatic weapons and drug dealers were on every block of my area.) Today the dealers have been pushed into the ghetto along with the automatic weapons. The violence and mayhem will continue to be there, with occasional thrusts into the hills, Piedmont and Montclair.. As I live in the flats, everyone knows: We are broke. We all own guns and WANT to shoot someone ( anyone). We all have Pit Bulls and they are all mean.

Gotta say, anyone that does a one man protest in Oakland is really putting his money where his mouth is. Good for you :thumbup

Funnily enough, the right to protest is one of your civil liberties :rofl

Thanks Ant -

I'll be protesting at the Rockridge BART tonite from 4-6pm with my Dellums sign.

I will not walk International if a verdict is imminent. I have called the three major black churches and asked the pastors to walk with me. I personally know one SF Chron reporter and have correspondened with another. I asked them to report on it.

Again, if the verdict is expected, I'll be hunkered down. And then VTRZA will be correct - I'm afraid.

I've lived in some fucked up barrios, I can understand the frustration from my fellow citizens who live surrounded by people who really need a copper jacketed solution to the problem at hand. I do cut some slack that way. People just get mad and talk some shit sometimes. Now if a Government official suggested it, I would get pretty worked up really fast.

I suspect any riots will be on the scale of the ones last time... A few hundred morons and fifty Berkeley longhairs.

Innocent: A few more hundred morons and longhairs.
Guilty: No downtown riots, they will all be on E14th St. They won't be riots, they will be assemblies of celebration. They will just look like riots with the same characteristics.

I can understand being frustrated too. I can also understand how historically dangerous such suggestions can be.

yep, he's in favor of civil liberties when he wants to use them. how surprising.

technically, you are correct - I won't argue that point

Now please tell me what your solution is?

If you don't have one, and you are just not supportive of violating one's civil rights, then fine. Say so.

I'm leaving in five minutes.

Also, what city do you live in?

You keep evading. He's DOING something vs just typing on an internet site. Who else in this thread is doing anything?

what exactly am I evading? I am pointing out how ridiculous it is to say get rid of them and then him using them.

yeah I don't have a solution for oakland and I am not in favor of getting rid of an entire cities civil rights

The only thing I can say solutionwise is to step up law enforcement, cutting a ton of police certainly isn't helping that. Also allowing people to exercise their 2nd amendment rights

Why not give the guy credit for physically logging off the computer and going out into the real world in an attempt to make a difference. Surely you can't disagree with that can you?

When did I ever say I disagreed with it?
