SV / MV rebuild - It's (almost) alive!

No Gold ... No chin fairing .. And Definately No Full Fairings.

Ignore them ... and trust your own good taste.

I'm with you on the full fairing but I've proven to myself that I'm really a 'visual/physical learner'. I do pretty well with the 'picture in my head' during the design stage but I can't REALLY tell if I like something until I see it, touch it and can understand all the details, etc.
So I want to mess with a chin fairing and see what comes of it. If it looks better, great. If not, I smash the chin fairing into 1000 pieces. Or sell it, maybe. Yeah, definitely sell it. That would make more sense than the smashing thing...
:p

Definitely unique. The pipes are a bit off with all that shininess, imo. i say thermal trans coat them black or something different.

Excellent craftsmanship on the tank, paint and figuring out all your fitment issues. Everything looks like its meant to be there with both its form and function.

Being a current owner of an SV, and having a close friend that just sold his MV...I gotta say, DAMN that's a sweet bike.

I would have never pictured mashing the two bikes up together and having it look that good. Good job on your vision and bringing it to life.

And FWIW, I think a chin spoiler would look sweet on that thing...

+100000

absolutely beautiful, I love the pipes, tank and tail, since everyone is a critic and has their own tastes, I'll add mine...the front is a little "heavy" for me from the side, the area from the vent to the leading edge in the front is a large plane (sic). the subtle curves of the tail and tank become a bit sharp and linear up front including the headlights.

could I have done better, or even close? hell no. but I can still be an appreciative critic.
:teeth
like ragging on a Ferrari F40 "yeah dude but your stereo kind of sucks..."

Dammit, I just wanted to update the original look of the S model with it's little 1/2 fairing. I doubt I'll ever make a full set of bodywork for it but I am thinking about fabbing up a chin fairing. We'll see. [/B]

I like the way you show off the engine. I think full fairing would hide too much... Maybe a nice sculptured chin fairing will complete the look you might have in you mind...

Let's be clear...that's not a lawn, it's a 'field'. If I'd stop working on bikes, maybe I could make it into a lawn. Ah the joys of county living. ;)

I will mow your 'field' if you let me sit on your bike and twist the throttle as it's running.

No riding, though. :teeth

Very nice job on your bike. There's a lot of love put into it, and it shows.

The only thing I'd change - your plate should read SV NV :laughing

Wow, looks great, Chris!

I'm trying to get an appointment with Bobby K for next month for the Mille and SV. The SV may need some assistance from you on fitting the Mille taillight on the GSXR tail :laughing

That's one hot final product!

I guess it's because there is so much curvature on the other bodywork, but that line where the bellypan is ultra strait. Maybe cut it and give it some curve? I don't know.

I think it would make a killer naked bike personally. Put some strait bars on it.

I think that's what I'm going to do with my race bike when I put it back on the street next year.

Looks great Chris......... the tank is frickin incredible.

BTW, Kelly and I still have the RVF and I could really use your opinion on a rear brake issue we've had since we moved out to Colorado. I'll PM you soon.

Seeya,

OK, here you go... Let the critiques begin.

Dude!

This belongs in the Barber Motorsports museum in Alabama.

Wow!

Best looking first generation SV, hands down.

Thanks for sharing:)

holy shit

You are a hero. I only wish I could do that level of work with my BSA.

Awesome work,
way over my head on the fabrication stuff,
looks wise...... I don't care for the under seat exhaust (and why 4) or the single sided swinger,
the front end / tank seat just looks awesome,
if it were my hands doing it I would have kept a double sided swing arm and the exhaust on the right side,

......... but, again.......... NICE JOB!

Well, the design for the naked version is underway. It looks pretty tough with no fairing. I want to build a floating headlight mount - I'm thinking a nice round light with no brackets visible on the forks. I may try and make a carbon headlight bucket, too.
And then it's time for a custom set of triple clamps. These are in the design stage, too. I know what I want them to look like so now it's just getting all the measurements done. Wait until you see these babies! Way cool...

I've followed it since the beginning of your thread on the tank and the amount of work has been tremendous. Congrats on finally finishing it! :thumbup

Can we get a zoomed-out view looking at the front? To put the headlights more in perspective? That upper is the only thing that jumps out at me as not *quite* right (IMHO), mainly because the lights aren't really to my taste, but nevertheless, amazing craftsmanship and overall outcome. I'm sure you're stoked. :)

from start to finsih this has been one exciting trip.

Awsome looking bike and a job well done.;)

Installed the vent grills and mirrors so it's essentially 'done'... for now. :applause

OK, that didn't last long! Now it's time to make a naked version, replace the swing arm with something different and build an entirely new exhaust!
