Tesla Model X

Hahahaha you got the reference!

I actually don't watch this show.

However, someone I know lives in a good I suppose area of Menlo/PA. His literal verbiage was [his new neighbors] "don't know who they are, but they have those cars with doors that go like this [^^^|^^^] up"

I never got if his new neighrbos are FB milinaires or new kids on the block from China. It was just interesting to see the superficiality of this--and this was NOT a young guy talking. The cliche of this was what probably created that scene of the movie.

lol @ gullwing doors. People are putting that crap on all sorts of cheap cars, even pickup trucks. Here's a pic I took in some little town in GA. Rollin' on bladez, yo.

Those aren't gullwing doors.

I actually just got a chance to drive a P90D with the ludicrous upgrade. Pretty amazing that they can get 2 1/2 tons to accelerate that fast.

As a car to just blister through sets of 21" tires every 5k miles while you accelerate faster than pretty much anything, with zero skill involved? It's amazeballs. I could probably never get tired of snapping heads back with one stab of my right foot. As a big luxury sedan? It's nothing special. Rides kinda rough which is amazing considering the mass and fancy air springs. A/C not very effective, which is just utterly inexcusable I feel. Seats are just meh. Big giant touch screen is nice, but not nearly as many bells and whistles as you can get on other cars at that price point. From a pure luxury viewpoint, it is a very very far cry from a S-Class.

I imagine the Model X will be more of the same for this. Yeah it will accelerate stupid fast. And of course there's the whole not using any gas thing (along with the highly coveted HOV lane sticker). But as a luxury SUV? Range Rover, Cayenne, GLK, and so on are much more capable vehicles.

Capable.. Of what. I'd be amazed if GLK owners actually go anywhere at all

Aaaaaah don't think owners of image SUVs like an evoque or GLK, hell, put regular people driving an X3, actually care about "capable"

Just glorified station wagons with slightly bigger ground clearance.

SUV is a marketing term.

More technically, the Model X is a full size CUV and not a SUV.

Here is a pick with mirrors, I don't know why they still have the mirror-less concept picture on the website. Mirrors are huge for areo-drag, so car companies explore removing them for camera systems, but I think the challenge is meeting regulations.

I think the Falcon doors will be an asset. The falcon doors were a major reason for Model X delays, so they would of been deleted if they were not added value. The reason for the falcon doors is so that you can stand up when you are accessing the back row of seats. Tesla's to have front-trunk storage, so the need for roof racks is diminished. Roof racks can be problematic in garages. Ask any bike shop and they will have lots of stories of bikes getting chopped off by garages.

Let's see:

  • Employs TONS of Americans
  • Created in the Bay Area
  • Manufactures in the Bay Area
  • Makes quality product
  • Sells at prices comparable to other high end BMWs/Mercedes
  • Innovation driven company
  • Sells a fully electric vehicle
  • Building massive factory in Reno, NV instead of overseas
  • Working towards affordable ~$35k all electric sedan people actually want

:thumbup

Still trying to figure out why people hate.

But $100k-135k for a CUV? That looks like a Mazda CX-5?

And you really think a roof rack isn't something a large percentage of buyers of this type of vehicle want the option to use? Bikes, skiing, camping? I'll bet a high percentage of SUV, CUV and wagon buyers would put a roof rack on the list of must haves, so I think they're limiting their buyer market a bit. Then again, I think this is really just a Model S wagon in the end. The only thing that shocks me about this vehicle in the price, I thought it was going to slot in cheaper than the Model S, not above it.

Yes they are.

Working towards and achieving are two different things though. When they actually market a $35k EV sedan, I'll be impressed, though I fully expect it'll be north of $50k when all is said and done. Then I'll only be impressed if it's really an awesome car, rather than just something with a superfast 60 ft. time. I'm starting to get excited about some of the other rumored EVs out there in the pipeline, not so much the Teslas.

Well seems like they've been saying that for quite some time :laughing

They have always said this is the path they are taking:
  1. Model S
  2. Model X
  3. Gen III
  4. Updated Roadster on Gen III platform (You didn't hear this from me)

They are launching Model X soon enough, yes countless delays in pursuit of making it right. I can respect that.

People seem to forget Tesla is a ground up auto-maker that has survived thus far. Doing what basically nobody else has done. They are doing it differently than those that came before them and using a Silicon Valley model for auto making.

They make a SOLID ass product yet people still bitch and complain. It confuses me to no end.
