Tesla Model X

Working towards and achieving are two different things though. When they actually market a $35k EV sedan, I'll be impressed, though I fully expect it'll be north of $50k when all is said and done. Then I'll only be impressed if it's really an awesome car, rather than just something with a superfast 60 ft. time. I'm starting to get excited about some of the other rumored EVs out there in the pipeline, not so much the Teslas.

They have always said it will be comparable to a BMW 3 series in pricing. I think they will meet that target. We will have to wait and see.

Then I'll only be impressed if it's really an awesome car

All I hear you saying is:

It better be a lambo for $35k! Then I'll finally say Tesla is a good company!

If they put out a vehicle that is similar to a 3-series in price, look, feel, finish, and performance I'll be very happy.

I'm starting to get excited about some of the other rumored EVs

Which are?

They make a SOLID ass product yet people still bitch and complain. It confuses me to no end.

This isn't about bitching and complaining, it's about commenting and discussing. My initial comment and purpose for this thread was solely about the pricing of the Model X, which is much higher than I thought it would be.

It's one hundred and thirty two thousand dollars. For a glorified minivan. Say that out loud and tell me it doesn't sound strange.

$2,300 payment for 60 months @ $130k price with $10k down and 9% tax rate.

Say you spend $300 a month in gas.

Gonna be awhile for that $2,000 car payment to offset the gas savings.

Which are?

Audi's crossover looks like it'll be wicked, if it turns out anything like the design drawings, and supposedly they have a number of EVs in the pipeline. Porsche as well. I expect Porsche will come out with some really cool stuff in the next 5-7 years, hopefully both in the form of EV versions of the Macan and the rumored mid sized Panamera light sedan.

Other glorified minivans:

  • Porche Cayenne Turbo: $114k
  • BMW X6 M: $106k
  • G-class tissue box model: $115k

I do agree it's pricey but you're paying for the limited "Signature" series which I believe they are only making so many of. Base models I would guess to be around $80K starting.

But the Cayenne Turbo is a fucking awesome machine that is better and more flexible than a Model X in so many ways it's not funny. And it's still $20k cheaper! But you don't even need to spend that. You can get an awesome, high end SUV/CUV/Wagon for $40k less than that if you want. $132k! That's in-fucking-sane.

But this is my question/curiousity. What are the lower models going to price at? If the Signature Series is $25k more than the comparable Model S, how can the base models of the X be cheaper than the base models of the S? That would mean the signature series, which is basically just the D power, is a $50K option, which seems ridiculous. I thought Tesla indicated the X would be cheaper than the S, hence my surprise at the Signature Series pricing.

Can you though? I swear cars are too expensive in general these days. I've seriously considered getting a Fiat 500E or a Smartcar Electric at this point. F the haters :twofinger

$25-$30k for a VW Diesel Wagon that gets better gas mileage and has the same if not more cargo than these SUVs do.

Subaru wagons have equal ground clearance with some of these SUVs and crossovers.

Just depends if you 'need' the hide from 7 alpaca covering the rear of your seats.

Agree, but we're talking the luxury market here with the Model X.

Honestly, the only car I've driven in a long time that really surprised me in terms of being better than I expected was an Audi Allroad. I was given one as a service loaner and expected it to be a dog with it's little motor, etc. It turned out to be one of the most pleasant driving cars I've driven in a long, long time. Not a ripper by any stretch, but supremely comfortable, wonderfully smooth and responsive powertrain and fantastic visibility. I'm currently trying to convince my wife to trade down from her Q7 into one of those.

People seem to forget Tesla is a ground up auto-maker that has survived thus far. Doing what basically nobody else has done. They are doing it differently than those that came before them and using a Silicon Valley model for auto making.

Sooner or later they're going to have to start acting like a real car company. Yeah they've done something unheard of in the car business...operate at a loss for several years straight, nobody has bought them and straightened shit out so it becomes a profitable company. That Silicon Valley model of never making a profit is gonna shake investor confidence sooner or later. Sad to think that $100k+ Model S/X vehicles as "loss leaders" but that's exactly what they are. If they don't sell an absolute shitload of Model 3s and/or license their tech to other manufacturers, the party will be over.

Drool over Audi Allroads! :thumbup

Luxury wise I get, I'm not sure what more I could ask for in my '13 diesel sportwagon though. I guess it has more plastic in areas where Tesla and others will be all leather. Maybe more power but mpg would suffer.

We (consumers) get caught up in frills we 'must have' and 'need' in our cars. Dealing with that now as GF is ogling over a new '16 Audi A4 quattro top pacakge....cuz in bay area traffic we need 300hp, 19" wheels and quattro drive :| :laughing

For it to, you know...actually be cool? :laughing

Are you still turning up the volume in your ride and strolling through parking lots?? :teeth

It's not like its an Aztec, I get compliments all the time. Granted, I did black the windows and d-badge it.

One shouldnt be concerned with being 'cool' past 30. You either are or arent by that point. My dogs, gf, nieces and nephews think I am, good for me.

They are acting like a "real" car company. Not even sure what that means. New companies pop up all the time that do things different from the "founding fathers" of their competitors. Uber and Lyft are destroying Taxi companies. IBM almost collapsed because of this. See - innovators dilemma. Apple almost failed several times due to this.

Tesla is forced to operate the way they do because the traditional way of starting a car company hasn't worked for anyone except the originals. The originals DESTROY competition because they can outproduce the competition and out-price the competition. Innovation and luxury was the only route that would make Tesla work. If anyone here thinks it's a cheap and easy endeavor to start a car company, please, be my guest, get to R&D and I'll see you in less than a week on the corner broke.

I hate when car companies operate at a loss..

*cough* GM *cough*

I say that as a life-long GM fan.

Teasela still getting government handouts?
Still have a shitty range?
Still have to spend $2k for a charging station at home?
Still worried about driving your $100k car any farther than a hundred miles?

Sister in law in Redlands has an S. We took it on an outing and watching the 'fuel level' like a hawk I turned off all non vital appliances to save juice. There we were, going down the 10 sweating our asses off in 105 degree heat. Got it home listening to all sorts of alarms saying yer gonna die if you don't charge it.

The next day we took my rental car. 300 miles and it still had 1/4 tank and we could use the air con.

Add Tesla to my Nope list. I don't care if they're down to 30 grand, the fuckin things have no utilitarian value.

I'm gonna write this post off as a troll post.

Teasela still getting government handouts?

Nope

Still have a shitty range?

Huh? I've never even heard of anyone complaining about range.

Still have to spend $2k for a charging station at home?

One time fee to have your "gas" station in your garage? Not bad.

Still worried about driving your $100k car any farther than a hundred miles?

Nope, supercharger network. Also, how often do people drive 200miles in a day? Almost never. Average person drives less than 40miles per day. Also, P70D is $75K BEFORE tax incentives w/ an EPA range of 240miles.

Sounds like more than an outting and anyone who has a Tesla should know their average range. Sounds more like user error than anything else. Early adopters always have to figure out things for themselves. Tesla has done a fairly good job of making it effortless. Also, no single human has ever run out of gas in their car? Right?

Hey Dubs how is your round Golf Wagon doing? You know it's a Golf right? :D they actually sell the sharpened version of the wagon Golf for 2015 now.. It's got better lights!

On the other hand maybe Rob's post above is exactly why people would want to buy the Tesla WutUV?

Yea, another BARF'er labeling something as a troll post merely because he disagrees with it.

It's apparent he likes cars with a longer range, so his needs/values are different than yours. That's not a troll post, unless for some strange reason he was lying about what he likes. :dunno
