I'm not upset about it Bud. I'm deeply concerned that the country no longer knows how to think critically. It seems we have replaced that skill with indulging in conspiracy nonsense that tickles our lizard brains. If we can't face the truth about the choices we make, we wont ever have good outcomes. I want good outcomes.

I also understand there is a time and place for things on a motorcycle forum. Your more than gracious and tolerant and I do appreciate it.

I'm going to make a prediction that the Texas camp gets sued into oblivion, and rightfully so.

At the same time, I'm betting that they've already moved the majority of their assets out of the country and hidden much of the rest.
 
I'm willing to bet most of the decision-makers live in affluent homes on relatively high ground, and thus don't care much about floods.

"Not my problem, so my taxes shouldn't be spent protecting those plebian communities. If they get flooded, oh well, maybe it'll motivate them to get on their bootstraps and better themselves so they can afford to move somewhere nice and become a self-made mover & shaker like me"

There are upscale neighborhoods along the Verde river here, in Cottonwood.
Sycamore Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, both drain into the Verde, along here.
I believe this kind flooding could occur here, from monsoon.
I have lived along the river, 60 feet away, for a year & half. it does surge.
 
The Verde flooded a few years ago when I was working in Sedona for the summer. the 89A bridge was at water level.
 
Funny thing I've noticed: I haven't seen anyone on social media saying Texas deserved it, the way I saw tons of people saying California deserved the fires. Some of them even claimed it was God's punishment for our "immoral ways"

So it looks like right now, that grift and corruption made them remove the Camp sites from flood one maps in FEMA , right?

… so there’s that ”freeedom” and “you don’t tell me what to do” and now people died.. :thumbdown
 
That's why the camp will get sued into oblivion. That action is going to look very bad in court, especially with the fact that after getting them removed from FEMA major warnings, they then built a bunch more buildings in the danger area. Then, knowing the risks, they didn't monitor the weather and take precautions when there was a major storm coming in with storm surge. With that many deaths, especially from rich families, they are going to lose big time.

The director of the Texas summer camp where 27 campers and counselors were killed by a devastating flood in 2025 testified Monday he did not see official warnings issued the day before the storm hit, that staff had no meetings about the pending danger and that they did not make the call to evacuate until it was too late.

Over several hours of sometimes emotional testimony at a court hearing packed with families of campers who were killed, Edward Eastland provided the most detailed description yet of how camp staff did or didn’t respond as floodwaters along the Guadalupe River quickly rose to historic levels, trapping children and counselors in cabins before they were swept away in the early morning dark of July Fourth.

“I wish we never had camp that summer,” Eastland said near the end of his testimony. He acknowledged lives could have been saved if camp staff acted sooner, but insisted they could not have anticipated the severity of the storm.

They had those children's lives in their care and didn't take necesary steps to ensure their safety.
