Texting instead of Calling--ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

Short texts are fine. Long texts piss me off especially if the sender expects me to provide a lengthy answer. I get massive texts from my boss from time to time - I will eventually just text "Call me" :laughing Of course, I don't like calls much either :twofinger

I do have one friend who is prone to sending short novels by messenger - I THINK she's using a PC, so typing it out isn't an issue. I'm typically on my phone (I don't like using FB on my work computer), so my responses are always MUCH shorter :laughing

The amount I've had to drink is directly proportional to the length of my text messages and facebook messages.

When I'm calling someone, I say "Hello, this is Cpt. Dickface with Buttplug Inc, may I please speak to Sr. Douchebag?" Almost no one does this any more. Don't assume shit.

Typically, I hang up on pricks who do this, sometimes even when it's a legit phone call just to teach 'em. :twofinger

Would now be a good time to tell you to stop calling me? We've already got all the buttplugs we need for the year.

My mom will send a text and shortly after follow up with a phone call which ends up leading to a voicemail where she says "hey did you get my text?".

She's also been known to call, leave a message, and send a follow up text saying "hey I just tried to call you, are you busy?"

:rofl
Would be priceless if she was doing it with the purpose of messing with you. :laughing

yeah, but I don't want that. I want zero notification from 10pm-7am. nothing

There's this little button that turns the phone off. Works like a charm. ;)

One pet peeve of mine is that a lot of young people never make a call, and instead- just use texting to communicate.

I understand that I am old, and texting is faster and more efficient, but it's annoying when it's something important and you are waiting to hear from someone.

I just heard on the radio this morning, that contestants are supposed to "Call In" to win a prize, these people are TEXTING their answers!!! :wtf

A few times I was waiting for my step Daughters to show up, and they are at my house, but never called me--- they texted me!!! WTF!! They are standing on the porch for 5 minutes and only texted me!!

I guess I'm just old.

In other news, I was at Denny's with a coworker and I ordered off of the 55+ menu. The Waitress never even questioned me. Damn, I'm old!!

It's definitely a generational thing, Ed. You're not old.

Let your step daughters know that it means a lot to you to hear their voices, that you prefer them to call you rather than text you. That way, you express your wishes and have a chance to change their habits just for you ...

Texts are more efficient and if the signal is bad, it might take longer to send but the message is still coherent instead of garbled nonsense.

Text uses less bandwidth, lower priority. Less carbon, better for the environment.

This

And this

The worst of all is voicemail, especially the one that say "call me".

My dad leaving me a VM: "Hey Ry, it's your dad, call me."

:mad :wtf such a waste of time. Also, parents live 7 minutes away, so I see them often too.

Yeah but then in an emergency I have to power the damn thing up and that delay might be costly.

I guess I could use my land line :laughing who am I kidding those things don't exist anymore ;)

I don't know, I think I am in both camps on this one.

I think there is a very valid time to text (directions, times, addresses, etc) but so much gets lost over text that I also get annoyed quite quickly. I don't want to have long drawn out conversations over text, especially when the person sends one text per thought. Put that shit in paragraphs!

However, I don't want long conversations about nothing. Don't waste my time. If we have something to talk about, lets talk, you have my full attention but don't get on the phone with me and then expect me to carry the conversation. It just wont happen. I do enjoy hearing my family's voices and getting to hear them laugh, rather than seeing LOL. That's mainly because I don't get to see them often though.

Reminds me of a guy at work. He'll drop into my office and ask me if I heard of a particular rumor going around. I'll tell him no I didn't hear, so he'll go about telling me whatever the hell it is and then sit there quiet for maybe minutes waiting for me to say something about it. Sometimes I'll ask more but it gets more annoying everytime. Dude just wants to hear people talk and then he argues with what they say and shit he knows nothing about.
The other day I didn't say anything and it took maybe 5 minutes of silence before he walked out.

I know a lot of parents who text their kids to come downstairs for supper. They say the other solution, yelling, doesn't work and puts pressure on their vocal cords.

What happened to, you know, knocking on the door and telling them directly? Works for me :dunno
