The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Not very fast but the range is decent for a $4k bike

Someone on the EV Moto Forum who has pre-ordered the LiveWire doesn't seem to be getting much info from Harley. Not sure if he's joking or not, but he said "maybe by Christmas."

His LiveWire parts did come in though... :party

What's the threshold between an electric motorcycle like the newer zeros, Hd livewire, Energica and the smaller ones that are basically electric bicycles without pedals?

Hub motors suck, they're the fun threshold.

Whaaaaaaat? They definitely don't suck, they just fit a different set of needs.

I'd take a hub-powered bike over unrefined ICE for a commuter. But if we want one criteria to distinguish, I think hub mount vs mid-drive is important for sport riding.

$1500 + shipping. More detailed writeup by someone asking for $13,900 for the ~same thing.

Wow the Light Bee is probably faster than that

That one is not unlocked, they go 60 mph.

If you tossed it off a bridge... That bike has a 2kW motor controller (~2.5hp) no way it goes faster that 40mph unrestricted.

I LULed at the ammo box batteries.

$1500 Chinese sportbike... What could possibly go wrong?

I dunno for that price im curious about grabbing one to throw around on the kart track.

The Chinese goverment hates motorcycles. From my limited understanding from watching a Moto Vlog on China, anything but low powered motorcycles and scooters are allowed. There is a gray market for motorcycles but it comes at great cost. I have seen a Ducati in Shanghai and maybe another real motorcycle.

If you visit China, most two wheeled transportation is electric today. Lots of electric scooters. I have noticed a shift since I first visited.

It ended up being like $28xx by the time he had it in his hands. He's employing a deceitful marketing technique to get views.

Yeah I've been hearing China is rising up to become a leader in electrification. My cousin said when he worked in China that motorcycles were illegal in the city he worked in. Its been a dream of mine to ride a motorcycle on the great wall of china haha.

Is it just because of smog emissions? I know most motorcycles are absolutely horrendous when it comes to that. So, it would make sense that China basically outlaws them unless they're electric... I would see electric motorcycles being great for China.

There is several articles on Chinese companies and electric vehicles. The more they have the better their technology is going to get. China has the largest number of automobiles in the world.

Here's an interesting one off electric bike based on Brammo Empulse R. If you were to make an Empulse scrambler this is what it would look like

Except for what it looks like it'd do to your nuts, it looks pretty rad.

That and the sharp corners are probably not great for your legs either. I'd guess braking hard would basically sever your legs off.
