The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Random, but I wonder what Zero's next move is. They have to be working on something now that the SR/S and SR/F have sorta flopped.

What makes you say they have flopped? They sell the most electric motorcycles at least in the US. Well big ones anyway.

Kenyon Kluge is winning races on his SR/F watch as he schools these guys on a track day

Is that Kenyon in B group?

The SR/F does seem really awesome. I have heard some really good feedback from fast Zero riders.

It it was a perfect world...
-DC fast is really needed
-more range
-lower price

I would not say its a flop until we look at planned vs actually sales volume.

FYI, San Jose Zero/BMW is having a Zero anniversary party tomorrow afternoon. Free SR/F rides. I'm thinking about it, but then I might have to buy a new moto. :laughing

Not sure but the dude is seriously fast. He beat the Energicas at Refuel TT when they had the last one a while back. I would be interested to see if he could take on the newer models.

If you haven't ridden a SR/F or SR/S should take it for a spin it's a great bike.

I guess the Chinese have bested US at the EV game then, they've found a way to make it work. I think Nio has swapped millions of batteries already and America is still at the crawl stage. So there's your proof of concept it works but Americans suck at it. It's like how public transportation sucks in America we didn't properly invest in the infrastructure.

After owning an electric motorcycle the EV charging infrastructure is shit here. The only reliable means is charging at home. That's why I'm buying a plugin hybrid instead.

Thanks for the link.

From the article it sound like it takes 15 min per swap currently and version 2.0 will be down to 5 min. This is assuming its running 24 hours a day.

Just as a sanity check, if you run the numbers:
104 swaps a day per station currently
so they have at minimum 48 stations running full tilt 24 hours a day to swap 1.5 million in ~300 days. Yeah, that is a lot of data, I wonder if it is accurate.

Found this video.

He had to wait 12 min at the station because of a line, but its was a 4.5 min line, so maybe version 2. He guessed it would take 30 min.

Oh, comments say that had 158 stations ~5 months ago.

Wow that was pretty rad it was like prepping a Gundam for take off haha.

I'm wondering what happens if there is a malfunction, it'd be like an amusement park ride oh my car is stuck in the machine.

Yeah I'm sure he would beat the other Energica riders if he was on a Energica as well.

I wouldn't say it's an outright flop - my wording was poor. I just think when you have a choice between Energica and the Zero's most are going with the Energica. DC Fast Charge, range, etc.

Zero may sell the most electric motorcycles in the U.S. but that doesn't mean the SR/F and SR/S are major contributors to that.

Schooling people on the track is less about the bike and more about the person.

Well like I mentioned the Zeroes beat Energica that one year. It's a big deal. But yeah it seems like Energica is winning the arms race. Every year seems like they are 1upping Zero. 21kwh pack, RS version, etc...

Yeah I'm sure he would beat the other Energica riders if he was on a Energica as well.

Well that year he won the TT he raced against Shelina Moreda on the Ego she's a professional racer. She used to race for Brammo. She's probably lighter than Kenyon too. So yeah your point is not valid. The SR/F is much lighter than the Ego is why it's faster. It's literally almost the same weight as the Empulse with more power.

I know the #1 complaint people have with the Energicas is the weight.

I like that you emphasized "already" haha. I remember seeing these like a decade ago in a group in San Jose, they were doing some kind of test drive.

I did see one parked in downtown Willow Glen one day.

they been around for 10 years, but in prototype stage for a long time, I don't think they delivered that many.

Tom, what was the wait time on your order?
$20k?

https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/why-arcimoto-stock-sank-26.2-in-march-2021-04-03

"Short-selling firm Bonitas Research published a report on Arcimoto on March 23 alleging that the company had misled investors about paid pre-order data and deliveries. The report also accused the EV specialist of minimizing safety concerns about operating its vehicles on public roads in order to pump up its share price"

interesting they are fwd vs the rwd canam...

pretty much 20K but there were about $2250 worth of rebates. Once I put my pre order down it was about a month wait. I really dig it, so much easier to deal with than a motorcycle, especially around town.

glad to hear u like it, I believe u mentioned in ur case that u can't ride a motorcycle anymore, a trike makes sense.

the weight seems high at 1300 llbs, (i think the spyder is 1000 lbs)

did you consider the spyder also?

I demo'ed a ryker once, dislike the lack of power steering...

pretty much 20K.

I rented a Spyder F3 and it was super comfy. I road it over hamilton through mines, palomares, calaveras and sierra road. I could have ridden it more it was so comfortable. I do wish you can adjust the traction control because it would just not let you have fun with it. I actually liked the bigger F3 because it feels more like riding a quad. The ryker is like a gokart. Would be great if they made an electric version. The motor is kinda meh.

Also in the news more battery swapping

Electric trikes, I'm seeing a redone Corbin Sparrow in the media recently, presented as something new, not Corbin.
I did take one for a lap around Corbin's factory, on a Hollister run.
I had to try and see how flippable it was, had to work it pretty hard intentionally.
Ventilation, was weak.
