The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Looks nice but the battery size hasn't improved from the 7.2. Come on 16.0 kWh!

The fact that the Jalopnik journo called it an urban motorcycle makes me feel like it'll be the same old platform with the 7.2 and a few tweaks, but let's hope we get a nice surprise.

Hmm wonder what makes it different than the FXS, guess see in a few weeks.

I bet it has the SR/[SF] electronics which means traction control that does nothing to keep the belt from breaking. If they release an ADV/Enduro bike without the chain on by default it will go well with the casual biker image they're promoting, but ADVRider will not receive it well.

Just hope it has decent suspension and brakes. The brakes on the fxs were pretty shit. Also the charging controller broke often. And the pulleys warped. And it over heated. And the power cut off happened pretty quick into the ride

Hmm I knew I've seen that bike somewhere

Is the Arcimoto FUV a lighter, less performant, less ergonomic three-wheeler than the top ICE ones -- like Zero's bikes?

it is what it is, 77hp and 1300lbs will only get you so much. I love it, I've wanted electric transportation for a long while, this was affordable, practical, and fun. One of my buddies on a pushrod GS pulled along side at 60mph on the freeway and challenged me to a drag, I punched it up to 80 and totally out pulled him, surprising everyone, plus I was carrying a passenger. Haven’t driven the car much since I got it.

it would be interesting to see what arcimoto/tmw/lightening can come up with for an electric tilter,
my guess it will be a tilting cruiser.

3 wheelers have been around for a long time (Morgan, Sparrow). They all flop. I'm waiting for one to break out.

Aptera is back from the dead.

Hey there's the slingshot! I rather liked it but then again that's less of a motorcycle than the other trikes. Polaris is still selling it so it must be making money. Maybe with the Polaris x Zero partnership we'll see an electric Slingshot. I rode the Niken and liked that too.

Haha I was wondering who that was that traffic was so bad, I was literally watching the first group of bikes go down the strip while waiting in traffic on my phone :(

At least with the FUV you can ride it in all sorts of weather without getting too wet. You won't have as much of an aero penalty as a Light Bee, I don't think they ever expected anyone to ride it past 50mph =P

Maybe Lighting can make a 3 wheel drive trike, moh motors mo powah!

So how do you charge the FUV? Is there a J1772 port on it?

those are non-leaning,
i like the Vanderhall, they have an electric version called Edision2.

For leaners,
I would say the Piaggio MP3 has proven itself.
Yamaha has the Tricity 125/300 and niken.
Qooder has a 4 wheel leaner.
Toyota has the electric i-road, i think they run a test fleet in Japan.

That was quite a slog on 19th, when they diverted us right onto California, I had an opportunity to zag left and took it, I then used my VA shortcut to get over the bridge.
Yes, it has a J1772 plug and I have a Juicebox level 2 charger at home. A buddy on a Zero dropped by for a quick pick me up so he could make it home, glad to help.
Three wheel drive would be awesome, what I read was the angles involved with the tilting front end don't play nice with drive axles/CV joints. The steering system in the FUV is very sophisticated, those dual front motors are fed info from the steering input, works great until there’s a hiccup.

Maybe Lighting can make a 3 wheel drive trike, moh motors mo powah!
BARF sez that I need to add more letters.

How 'bout down here?

I realized that my Kuberg Ranger is classified as a Motorized Scooter due to having floorboards. It is legal on the street without a M1/2 license, no plate, no reg., no insurance, no lighting. All of which a Moped needs. The down side is it should not travel on any road posted at over 25 mph and should not exceed 15 mph. However, if you're a senior like me it becomes a Mobility Scooter and you can go 30 mph.
I realized this AFTER I registered it as a Moped, I'm tossing the plate!

I've seen a FUV in San Jose let's see if I can find that picture. If they have a demo drive event would like to take one out for a spin. This would make a great delivery vehicle.

Mopeds don't need insurance (I still have it tho) and I don't thibk they need lighting either I've never seen anykind of specification for moped lighting. I would have at least head and tail light.
I just use handsignals. Moped you can ride up to 30mph.

According to DMV 15mph on bike lanes is as fast as motorized scooters can go. Usually roads that are posted over 25mph have a bike lane. I got pulled over for riding my Goped one time when there wasn't a bike lane a loong time ago.

The laws are kinda vague but a Light Bee probably has more power than 4hp as long as you don't go as fast as 30mph should be good enough =P I go faster if I need to make a left turn
