Hmm One should I even bother trying to ride it? It would be nice getting to ride it longer than a few blocks haha. Maybe just take out that R7. I saw on Facebook that Energica will be there would really like to take the SS9+ out for a ride as that maybe the one I'm gonna buy.

Jesus I got to prioritize which ones I wanna try and sign up for first.

I think the KTM super duke has to be priority one.
FTR1200
Himalaya

Merlin what day you going?

Does anyone know what time we should arrive to sign up? 9am or earlier?

Anyone got a discount code? I think PRG21 gives you $4 off entry but not sure if there is any code with a deeper discount.

Test rode the Live Wire and Panamerica at IMS. Live Wire is pretty hot - roll on and go. On return run I was flying along as I was coming up to the light at the entrance to the track. Started blipping and grabbing for the clutch and trying to downshift. Bike was bucking all over the place as I kept blipping the throttle. Old habits… :D

Info about the Metacycle motor

Hmm 14k puts it slightly more powerful than my modified Light Bee. For a $5k electric bike and it's intended purpose to to ride around town and occasionally hope on the freeway and exit or two I think it's still good.
The motor is designed to put out a max peak-rated power of 14 kW (20 hp), though ECO mode will presumably limit that power.

I test rode the FXE, SRS, and Livewire at IMS.

Livewire is the best motorcycle I've ever ridden. I'm not taking range or charging into account but everything else was spot on for me. Fit and finish was excellent and the overall design, parts, were great too. Really got me thinking about actually buying one...

It's too bad we couldn't ride the Energica to compare. Hard to believe that it can be much better. Fit and finish were good on the Energica too but I liked the rear suspension design way more on the Livewire, and overall it looked better put together with some higher quality components. Curious to hear how that Energica linkage free suspension design works on bumpy road and in real life. Seems like a primitive design that was their only option due to the position of the motor.

Anyone here who's ridden both who can comment?

There was a one-post review from someone on BARF that rides for sport who said it bounces around like a pogo on power out, and together with the high weight and maintenance schedule I wrote off the Energica. Only real review I could find that's not a fluff piece or by very casual riders.

Well they fixed the high maintenance issue with the 2022 model. The maintenance interval is now something like 30K miles.

Even though the suspension is progressive you can only do so much without any linkage. Introducing linkage really allows you to tune the way the suspension behaves at extremes - very low travel and very high travel. But I'm not a suspension design expert, so maybe Energica was able to figure out something that others weren't able to? Would be curious to hear more feedback from a sporty rider that rides some goaty roads with bumps in them. I did some searching on feedback and a lot of it was from casual riders + I also found HadesOmega's video on YouTube where it's obvious the suspension isn't working properly over bumps. That said, that could be that the bikes aren't properly set up from the factory.

I'm also curious about the IMU/VCU and how it interfaces with the Bosch ABS on the Energica. The website doesn't make this clear but I'm not sure that the Energicas have cornering ABS.

I guess I need to take one of these bikes out for a spin to form an opinion.

You're welcome to take my Energica for a spin. Granted mine is an older 80KW version and is thus less powerful and also heavier.

Try the reverse out on the LW & Energica. Then the slow forward. Then compare the charging on L2 or L3. See what luggage is available for each.

Yes, I have ridden both. The LW is my least favorite electric bike for many reasons. The LW didn't fit me as well as does my Energica.

But LW does look very well built, so I can give it that much. Looks a lot better in reality than in photos. But IMO, my Energica even looks better.

At least they dropped the price of the LW to something ALMOST reasonable.

I got to demo ride the Energica Ego at Calmoto Livermore Saturday. Lovely dealership, btw. I went along with a group of friends for curiosity sake. The Ego is nice looking and has lots of trick machined billet parts. A beast in acceleration and no shifting required. Just roll it on and it shrieks like a banshee. Lots of fun in a straight line. In the turns its 600 pounds is readily apparent and sluggish and the suspension bouncy over rough patches. It was set to medium. Disclaimer, I ride older and smaller bikes so my perspective is skewed. [Motorcycles: '16 FZ-07, '82 C70 Passport, '90 GB500TT, '90 CB-1. Projects: '94 & '96 RVF400, '94 NSR250R SE]

I had planned on the rear shock upgrade to Ohlins to be a must.

The preload form the factory was set really high for me. I had to back it out quite a bit. The Ego probably feels heavier cause clip ons but either model with bars feels surprisingly light compared to any other 500+ lbs bike once you're moving.

So how is it now, especially on uneven surfaces?

I'm actually thinking I'll rent the Eva that's on riders share in Livermore. Would be fun to spend a few days with it to get the feel of it.

I've been telling anyone that is willing to listen to me that this is one of the best bikes I've ever owned and I've had quite a few. I've had her for nearly 3 years now and the bike is still amazing to ride. Feels planted and confidence inspiring in the corners. If something happened to it I would buy another one without hesitation.

How many miles on your Eva and how has the battery been holding up? My 2017 Zero with 13,800 miles has lost probably 15-30% of capacity. I have to use no rear brake, down-and-back instead of slabbing home, and drafting on the minimum freeway in the slow lane.
