The left lane

Oregon enforces this...unlike some states. Impeding laws are on the books, as are laws that you should drive in the right lane except to pass. Rarely enforced.

Cracks me up because the HP's will get grants to go out and stop "aggressive driving", yet they'll do nothing about the cause, which is usually caused by that guy doing the rolling road block in the left lane and frustrating people. Stopping aggressive driving to NHP is giving 5 over tickets (can't speak for CHP).

OP would have a heart attack if he had to commute over 17 regularly. It has been a problem for some time. Now it's an epidemic. This behavior results in 2 things, 1) slower commute for everyone and 2) more dangerous for everyone as people try to pass on the right (around corners with poor sight lines).

i 100% agree, but my main pet peeve are people that wait until they are on the freeway to get up to freeway speed. that is what the onramp is for! it really is the most dangerous part of my commute if i am getting on the freeway behind someone that enters at 40mph.

This +1000. Left lane rolling road blocks are annoying, but people merging at 40 (being optimistic) is just dangerous.

DucatiHoney gave me a week off for commenting on this subject.

You must have said something wrong cuz ducatihoney doesn't just slam her hand in the door and pick a name to suspend.

I wish it was free game to pass in between slow moving vehicles....oh wait...it is :)

Also on slow moving roads, there was a car doing slow down the twisties the other day, not a car in sight front or behind...just this..one...car....going...so...slow. I had my hi beams on and was on there ass for a mile or so and they WOULD NOT GTFO of my way..So? over the double yellow I go...

It was that or take a nap at the nearest pullout for the old people to leisurely make their way down the mountain.

i call BS on your BS. maybe if you said you drive a veyron, id believe that you can get up to speed with 1/4 throttle, but not in a prius. i drive a honda fit (which is faster than a prius but not by much) and i have to go balls to the wall full on vtak screamin to get up to 65

I tried it on my way home this evening - got 'er all the way up to 50 at the top of the ramp without laying into 'er.

:rofl 1/4 throttle in the s600 gets me 90 up the on ramp then I have to slow down to merge in with the 70 mph traffic

Purdie much; the CHP are very short sighted too.

This topic comes up every now and again on the forums. It amazes me how many people do not follow the very simple rules about the left lane both from posts and real life experience. It is a real pet peeve of mine.

Traffic would be so much better if people did this consistently on any multi-lane highway. It is dangerous and selfish to make people pass you on the right. Quit it.

  • If you are in the left lane and a faster car is coming up behind you, move to the right if there is room. It doesn't matter how fast you are going. Just do it.
  • Look for cars, bikes trucks or whatever who may be approaching from behind.
  • The best rule is just use the left lane for passing and don't hang out there.

+ 1 !!!!!

And....

Hold doors for people....
Help old ladies across the street...
Give up your seat to pregnant woman...

You know, common fuckin' courtesy. :)

Highway 17 is actually the south bay TT track. The lines are just for show. :laughing

In Minnesota, it's legal, like in CA, to pass on the right. No one ever moves over and it's a clusterfuck just like here. In Indiana and Illinois, you MUST move to the right and signs remind you ever 5 miles to do so. Even cars flying down the highway at 90 will move over to the right whenever they can. (Except in Chicago. It's just too damn complicated on a 10 lane interstate)

this is a major reason I ride.

if the ass doesn't move over in 30 seconds then I blow the passenger door down.

In Europe, the fine for not moving over is higher then the fine for passing on the right. Oh, how I wish that was implimented here in the states.

Colorado does this

Oregon too

Texas also I think.

I doubt this argument applies, but I wonder if there's a correlation between left-eyed and tendency to drive to the left. I'm in no way condoning hogging the left lane, but few people know they're left-eyed. Half of the population is left-eyed.

Neither here or there, SLOW TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT, it's the law.

I love this. The other day I got into a quick argument with a neighbour that insists in entering the lift before passengers can get out. In his opinion "it's no big deal". I told him it's basic social skills.

what I hate are the idiots in the right lane who see a biker getting ready to pass on the left, and they speed up like saying "you're not passing me!" Dumazzz! They don't realize that by the time their foot has received the message from their brains to accelerate I've blown by them and is long gone.
