The left lane

is true.
cars do see you but they don't move over cuz they're more important. Gotta hog the lane, gotta make the call.

When they drive on our nice, wide, 5-lane Interstates, they assume social status is displayed by lane position. Being in the left lane makes you the king of the freeway. The other lanes? For low-status people. Somebody behind me wants to pass? Ha! They should have got here earlier. It's MY left lane, bitches!

This is VERY VERY true.
(effin wankas who think that's their status, if you ask me. )

But, since you and in no hurry have made this thread so interesting.. let me tell you this. If you think 'foreigners' drive in the incorrect lane, think really, really hard who gave them the example to drive like that... and who is giving them an easy driver's test.
Here's a clue.. there are enough pick-up trucks in the fast lane, thank you

Or maybe some people like keeping a nice big gap in front of their car so they don't have to panic stop when some idiot who just had to shave a minute off their commute causes an accident which then makes traffic slow to a crawl or stop.
I leave a gap between the car in front and mine. The faster I travel, the bigger the gap.

I agree that its a matter of social status / dominance. Nothing bigotted, just pointing out the differences in cultures.
Which cultures?

FTW.

Gabe, the statement in itself is xenophobic, bigot and racist. The statement accuses and blames all foreigners. Get real. That's very unbecoming and nasty.

So what if it did? Ever consider the notion that he may be right?

Or should we dismiss a potential problem without further investigation because people like you are offended?

Present a reputable statistic then. Otherwise it's just demonizing a group for no reason.

"Women can't drive", "old people cause too many accidents", "motorcyclists are the rudest drivers". All nonsense pull out of a xenophobic, bigot, racist arse.

Wrap the noggin around this notion.

No. For me it's best for cagers to stay where they are when I'm coming up on the bike. The pure beauty of the bike is it's flexibility to flow around traffic and slab cagers KNOW this and luv bikes that have seasoned riders BECAUSE of this.

Once the op reaches the next level, he'll get what I just posted.

I should add that run a lot of miles on twisties per year, but have to run a few miles on the 101, and have to occasionally run other slabs in the bay area. The pure beauty and harmony and simple courtesy of cagers around bike in this area, once they see or hear the bike, is absolutely stunning, and on a daily basis.

They do NOT need to move over for me and they know it. However, most cagers will signal that they see me by moving a couple inches away from me!

Not sure what's going on, but this has been the norm for the last couple years. I suspect it's the net.

If I see a cager coming up behind me, I move over for them. And yes, I flow past them when traffic slows them down. :)

too funny. Whenever I see odd cagers, nearly always female. I live in a town full of elderly, and I have to watch out, BIG TIME. Noob on bikes are rotten terrible.

Selfish drivers; drivers that have lost the moves; noobs on bikes that are enveloped in some kinda odd ego mental cage, all happen a lot. However, not as much during the past couple years. Drivers are getting better and noobs are not pushing like they used to.

I'm not discrediting that certains segments of the drivers' population have this or that trait. I belong to the segment that no longer drivers like a bat out of hell. Also the segment that drives in the right lane. Also the segment that doesn't talk on the phone while driving. Also the segment that doesn't drink and drive. And finally the segment that keeps a good braking gap.

Gabe and bluenoser are postulating the 10 million foreigners in California hog the left lane because of culture. That's ridiculous. And xenophobic, bigot and racist.

Cluelessness equates to selfishness.

The Bay Area has the worst collection of assholes on the road that I've seen anywhere in the country. It has descended to the lowest common denominator and nothing is going to change that aside from tickets for 'driving like an asshole'.

Oh yeah. I live in a metro area and can report that all types of peoples are most excellent here. However, up until a couple years ago, Asian females fresh off the plane, terrorized the roads. Not sure, but had a few try to ram the bike off the road, or thought it cute to 'share' my lane!

However, since about two years ago, never had another problem. I SUSPECT all the cagers just started reporting them on the spot! I mean, so many pull out that phone and just start recording, the upload to youtube or to popo! Whatever, no more problems around here. Luv it big time.

Totally agree about selfishness and clueless, but, seriously, bay area cagers are the best. My current bike as over 112,000 miles of twisties since end of 2007, so I have the experience. Have to do about 50 miles of slab when I do the mines loop, which is what I normally do, weather permitting, but have to go up to Santa Rosa once in awhile.

Tourists, have to be careful around, as they're tired, not familiar with the area or the roads, and are kinda stressed, and we get a lot of tourists in SF.

..........I note two kinds of riders:

Type1: Never stop, keep going, split at all speeds, use all lanes.
Type2: Ride actively/alertly, but at highway speeds stick to your lane unless it slows down to splitting speeds.........................

......................
Type 1. This is the correct way to ride in the Bay Area. :)

:ride

I actually use both..... Type1 requires full concentration, and sometimes I'm a little distracted :blush

This topic is always guaranteed to get emotional :Popcorn and my favorite part is when people are soooo convinced they are "right" (myself included ! ) :laughing

Lol. Guess I need to level up. :rolleyes

I have no problems getting around traffic on a bike. A rolling roadblock creates a problem for everyone. I want traffic moving smoothly, and not raging and cutting across lanes to get around some jackass with open road in front. Once you level down you'll get what I am saying.

Planegray I get what you are saying about the right lanes. Sometimes it is hazardous over there too with entrances and exits and the occasional super slowpoke.

I am also both a Type 1 and Type 2 it depends on the situation. I tend to fall more in the type 1 but sometimes it just isn't worth it.

This morning I passed a very slow van driver doing 60-65 in the left lane....after a few minutes I realized just how much he was holding up ALL LANES of traffic as the highway was empty behind me after I passed him.

Ding ding ding. Fucktards. :mad

rev, riding is not about bi-polar. Not about rage or raging around traffic. Just simply flowing smoothly, with fore thought, with reason, around traffic.

I do NOT want cagers jumping out of my way. I want them to RELAX and let me work around them in harmony. If a tricky area, I'll tuck in until all is clear. In city area I maintain same speed so the cagers can see where I am and do their lane changing to set up for a turn into a business.

I have no understanding of why you would be upset with someone in 'your' fast lane when on a bike! Makes no sense for seasoned riders to be upset about this or about anything.

That's what riding is all about.

You will see a good rider after about three seconds in traffic. You can see that he's loose and going easy and flowing with the harmony of it all. Not mad, cranky, upset, hormonal, stupid, mean, dumb about whatever.
