The left lane

Are we talking about buses in the HOV lane during commute hours?

Nope, the ones that go into the regular left lane and just park there. As noted, it happens a lot on 101. I used to commute between SSF and San Mateo, and I'd see easily six to ten big buses each direction, just plodding along in the left lane...

Do these companies have policies on how the driver should be driving? It might even be their POLICY to drive in the left most lane.

:thumbdown

Yeah, that would piss me off too.

See it alot on 280 northbound during the pm commute also.

truth. most of the time its the genentech shuttle or the bauer IT limo busses. the genentech drivers are pretty good about giving me space to get by though.

Why do BUSES always drive in the left lane?
WAG ... because it's a wide vehicle and the driver can see the lane divider better on the left side, thus helping to keep the bus in the center of the lane. Again, totally WAG. And it doesn't excuse that bad/illegal behaviour. Lorries drive on the right.

Bus drivers in the left lane are the only drivers I flip off, as they are professional drivers and should know better.

So, I look at them, point at the slow lane, shake my head, and flip them off with faux anger.

Probably not really helping, but I do feel better.

OP would have a heart attack if he had to commute over 17 regularly. It has been a problem for some time. Now it's an epidemic. This behavior results in 2 things, 1) slower commute for everyone and 2) more dangerous for everyone as people try to pass on the right (around corners with poor sight lines).

Honestly, it's why I moved back over the hill. My blood pressure was shooting up every day on the way to work. It was horrible. And because no one has any discipline, a parade of right-lane passers will prevent the slowpoke from getting out of the flipping lane.

You've never driven in WA, have you? :rofl

Every single lane, 58mph. No lane splitting.

Enjoy!

Seriously, in CA we have it *pretty damn good* in terms of road speed and lane discipline, relative to other states I've spent time in.. believe it or not.

Yeah. This. I grew up in Louisiana and did I-10 from Lafayette to New Orleans a LOT. Nothing but 18-wheelers between the port of Houston and Port of New Orleans. Passing on the left. Sitting in the left lane. Pacing the old lady in a Cadillac at 60mph for thirty miles with hundreds of cars stacked behind.

When I moved to California in 1995, it was like heaven. And things have changed a lot - for the worse. For me, the Camry/Prius drivers are worst, usually not even looking behind them or getting passive-agressive, or just plain not seeming to understand that other people want to pass.

I gave up for the sake of my mental health and now remind myself often that I will lose only a few minutes, if that, for the sake of someone's stupidity, but that being aggressive about trying to pass could cost much more in money, time, and grief.

Not a perfect world; there are a too many people in it from too many places that have very different cultures - I say that about people from other states in the US, other countries, hell, other galaxies as far as I know. My British friend swears it's the same in Britain for the same reasons.

It isn't worth trying to squeeze out a bus or truck. I'll share in a lane over to get around.

Data Dan put up some stat or study that showed a large portion of sharing fatalities were due to buses and trucks.

My friend JFK was killed passing a box truck in Hayward. That's enough anecdotal evidence for me.

I used to live in Wa State and I was pulled over for staying in the left lane; mind you it was like midnight and the only car behind me was the trooper lol. It's too bad California doesn't have this law.

I encounter this too. There is like 3/4 mile separated lane run up where I get on the freeway. Almost everyday there is some chump putzing along at 30. :wtf

Hey man, my POS Sunfire w/278k miles doesn't exactly get up and go all the time :rofl

I do however move the eff over to the right, so the rest of you with better cars can pass me as I shake rattle and roll at 70MPH hahahha

Here, letz make it real easy so'z dickless egomaniacs can understand too.
It doesn't say "slower traffic unless you're going the speed limit."

No one is forcing you to break the law, the sign is forcing you to move the fuck out of the lane when safe to do so. It doesn't say speed up and break the law, it says SLOWER traffic KEEP right.

The intent of the law is to keep traffic flowing, regardless of its speed.
The reason being, we spend hundreds of millions of dollars widening our freeways, just so someone can sit in the far left lane, side by side with another vehicle, which is doing the same to the next two lanes, effectively turning a 4 lane highway into a 1 lane highway. That is why the slower traffic keep right sign exists.

It's not your concern if the vehicle behind you is speeding, your concern should be obeying the regulatory (by your I mean people violating the sign, I know you specifically aren't doing it) which is directly applicable to your driving. Which in this case, is the one telling you to keep right because there's a faster moving vehicle behind you.

I don't work the highway, but as I said, if I did... I would write that citation every-single-minute of every-single-day. Just about nothing else does more to fuck up traffic than left-lane bandits.

The catch-all that you would be violating is CVC 21461, failure to obey a regulatory sign.
^THIS^ :applause
Glad sum one getz it. :party

^^^ I like it. If I worked freeways, there wouldn't be a budget crisis. The printing department wouldn't be able to issue citation books fast enough.

But then, why do motorcyclists enter the freeways and automatically go to the left?

I drove I-5 from LA to 580 last week. luckily traffic was light but even then my head was about to explode from left lane bandits I encountered.
