The Official 2012 NFL Thread

randy moss in santa clara on monday. i'll reserve judgment on that...

I thought Hunter was doing great as a back up to Gore? I think a 3rd Down back like Jacobs could help you guys for sure, but I didn't see RB as a real big pain area for the Niners with Gore and Hunter on track.
hunter isn't going to be an every down back. he isn't jones-drew or ray rice. he's more of a darren sproles type. he isn't going to be a 250+ carries guy. gore has gotten injured and either missed games or been ineffective in a few games for 3 seasons in a row. he's a great back, but he'll be 29 in may. his days are numbered

Its becoming clear that sf and Smith are going to be stuck with each other for better or worse. All the Qb action around the league is working against both of them. Pickings are getting slim for both alternate Qb options for sf, and destinations for Smith to land.

I'm guessing Alex will cave and agree to a 3 year deal soon
the niners should sign josh johnson asap. that might light a fire under alex's ass. no way the niners should commit to more than 3 years. alex had some good games, a great game against the saints. but i watched every play of every game, i kinda doubt i missed the part where he set the league on fire.

I think he got them to back to back AFC Championship games his first two years. But really, it's just as accurate to say their defense did. Dude is the epidome of a mediocre NFL QB.
you're a drummer? i thought you played jazz flute or the panpipes or some other faggoty instrument :p

or, tell Andrew Luck to pull an Eli and demand to be reunited with Harbaugh in SF, and send Kaep and the #30 pick to Indy after they pick Luck -- ethics be damned :rofl

Or he could pull an Elway, and tell the Colts to suck it.

Speaking of Eli, I'm not a big fan of A.J. Smith, but he won big points with this gem:

"I don't know why you would ask me. And I don't know why anyone is asking Peyton. If you really want to know what's going on—what trips he's making and where he's going to play—call Archie."

The knock on Sanchez is that he's "lazy"... granted not JaCarcass Russell lazy, but his lack of effort was noticed by teammates. I think the the biggest issues facing the Jets last year was their departure from "ground and pound" and Ryan's mouth.

Hunter/Jacobs could be a pretty brutal 2 back set. Especially if Gore was out of the picture so BJ thought he could compete to start.

Jim Harbaugh's reported to be the one throwing to Randy Moss today for his 9ers tryout...that's kinda cool! on the downside, he's the most qualified to throw passes to Moss on the team right now...

yeah, Jed York made teh funny on twitter, saying a former colts pro bowl QB was throwing passes today.

He meant Harbaugh

here you go ElD:

"The Oakland Raiders plan to release tight end Kevin Boss, who signed a four-year, $16 million deal last summer, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter."

NFL just wtfpwned the Redskins and Cowboys for ignoring the "don't abuse an uncapped year by signing massively frontloaded deals" clause for the 2010 season.

Washington loses 18M in cap space this year AND next year, 36M total

Cowgirls lose 10M, not sure how it's split up.

apparently to redistribute the money, 28 other teams are getting an additional 1.6M cap space -- the Raiders and Saints get none cause I guess they fucked up too but not as bad as Washington and Dallas

Schefter and ESPN reporting Moss has agreed to a 1 year offer from SF.

Seen on Twitter, "Man, Randy is gonna be pissed when he finds out Harbaugh is his coach, not his QB!"

Still reserved? I was gonna quote your abandon hope post, but couldn't find it quickly enough.

A person with knowledge of the negotiations says Randy Moss is back in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

:rip 2012 Niners.

:rip 2012 Niners.

don't be so dramatic. Harbaugh has already set the precedent for dropping chumps and punks.

Randy will walk the walk or go somewhere else. if this is like any of Baalke's other deals it will be just as good for the Niners and Braylon's was last year as far as being supremely low risk with great upside.

Moss, Crabtree and Morgan taking 75-80% of the Niners 3 wide sets? sounds groovy to me, baby.

'cause it worked out so well for the Vikings.

:laughing

Dude's toxic. Not even worth the effort.

you just compared Mike "different rules for 'errebody!" Tice to Harbaugh?

just as much as you can predict Moss will be toxic based on his past behavior you can also bet that the Niners will be fine based on Harbaughs past behavior. If Moss truely needs to act unprofessional he won't be with the team very long and it'll have cost the Niners relatively little. Same as what happened with Braylon who also was reportedly very surly towards the end there. :dunno

ONLY if the Seahawks or Cards can manage to be competitive. If the Niners are just rolling over their Division into the playoffs again, Moss will be fine even if he's not getting a lot of catches.

His past behavior with Minnesota and New England has been in VERY competitive Divisions. The NFC West is a different Animal.

I got nothing but smiles over here. Just have to stop the shitbirds now...

Mike Tice? Are we doing the time warp again? I'm referring to the hiring/firing that cost Childress his job. Moss was on the outs by then, and clearly it didn't slow his roll anyway.

The absolute best case:
- Dude's a 35 year old WR.

Why invest any time and take the risk? Let him retire.

i will ignore your completely logical argument and inject a picture of Crabs and Moss together in 2012!
