The Official 2012 NFL Thread

I haven't even seen anybody mention it anywhere, wondering if they are just going to lay it on the staff and leave it at that or what

supposedly Goodell is waiting until after they Player Association meetings in two weeks so he can coordinate with D. Smith on punishments that will result in the least amount of push back from the Union.

what do you think about Warren Sapp allegedly 'outing' Shockey as the whistleblower on twitter, then reiterating on the NFL channel?

Warren Sapp needs to STFU. Stop trying to make yourself relevant.

Actually, this statement applies to most ex-athletes trying to make it on TV.

Onion wins this morning:

"Sean Payton Accepts Punishment, Says In No Way Does He Condone Injuring Goodell For $500,000"

:laughing

basically this.

If he wanted to win, he would have gone to SF, money be damned. He wanted the $$$ so he went to Denver.

now that Denver has moved Tebow, it SHOULD be a no brainer for them to sign Mike Wallace away from PIT, they still have the cap room to do it.

You sure about that?

From the P-G this morning:

P-G said:
Maybe the reason no team has either signed Mike Wallace or come close to it is his asking price. This morning comes a report from Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee that San Francisco 49ers inquired about Wallace in the first week of free agency but were taken aback by his asking price. Wallace supposedly wants more than Larry Fitzgerald’s eight-year, $120 million contract!

Here’s the story: http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archives/2012/03/the-49ers-inquired-about-mike-wallace-but.html

seems kind of stupid. could open himself up to some legal problems if shockey was wont to do so, saw a suggestion that it might violate some federal law, probably one of the whistleblower laws. would have been better if it had been left as a whispered rumor.

From the P-G this morning:
planegray? what the fuck does that hippy know about football?

Yeah... that's not happening.
at least he didn't ask for calvin johnson money

And... :rofl

Yeah... that's not happening.

Wallace has shown signs of megalomania before, but I suspect this might be strategic on his agent's part, if not his.

Stick around for another year, look good, then go unrestricted, and be able to ask for more money next year, with no first rounder on the table.

Wow, Onion is all over this year's off-season:

:rofl

Oh, damn.

So the Bears signed Michael Bush, and Matt Forte is pissed.

Matt Forte ‏ @MattForte22
There’s only so many times a man that has done everything he’s been asked to do can be disrespected! Guess the GOOD GUYS do finish last….

Oh, damn.

He does have a point... Didn't DeSean Jackson pretty much get everything he wanted after pulling the stunts he did last year all the while everyone said "look at Forte, he's doing it right, even though he wants, and deserves more money, he's playing his heart out every game."

Ditka always said that Papa Bear Halas threw nickels around like man-hole covers, I guess it's still the way they do it.

or they can franchise his ass next year.

Not enough tags to go around, if their plan is to keep him around that long, I suspect they'd just make him sign something, and if he really wants that much money, invite him to go find it.

:laughing

He doesn't even try to hide how desperate he is to be relevant. Shockey should do the fun thing and sue the fat off Sapp. And what is shit about "Snitchin'". These are NFL players we are talking about, not ghetto-dwelling gangsters.

darren sharper is gonna get raeped. half the highlights on nfl network showing the saints cheap shots were him. vilma was a close second.

F'em both.

ginn signs a 1 yr with the niners.

josh johnson signed to 2 yrs.

and alex's contract sets it up for kaepernick (or maybe even johnson) to take over next year. $8M guaranteed this yr, $1M next year, no guaranteed $ for yr 3. alex's avg salary is 19th among nfl qbs. niners FO is badass. :laughing
Mendenhall and Heath Miller.
yawn.

franchise wallace if they can't work out a long term. although, thanks to megabucks that number is going way up.

Seriously, they are doing shit right. Baalke, Harbaugh, and Paraag Marathe (the guy negotiating the actual $ contracts) are killing it. The Smith deal is absolutely brilliant especially considering the crap contracts that Fitzpatrick, Sanchez, and Flynn got.

I love the Josh Johnson deal, too. Harbaugh coached him in San Diego, Gruden drafted him in Tampa, but then got fired and Johnson was shoved into a backup role cause they went away from the WCO.
