The Official 2012 NFL Thread

I don't think so!!!!
I do expect SEA to do better this year than they did last but.....
I have the same opinion about SF.

Better than last year? You expect them to be undefeated or what? :laughing They were like 13-3 last year, with a tougher schedule this year.

The motto I've decided for this 2 Superbowl (So Far) era of the Coughlin/Manning Giants is, "None more clutch."

The Giants remind me of Hakeen Olajuwon's Houston Rockets....fumble around in the regular season then get into the playoffs and kick the crap out of all the supposedly "favored" teams....twice!

2007: 10-6 Superbowl Win Started 0-2, lost 4 of the last 8 games including the final game of the season to the team they would face in the Superbowl.

2011: 9-7 Superbowl Win including a 4 game losing streak.

You fucking learn to hold on tight and not panic. :laughing

Whatever, dude, your team has 6 NFL Championships under their belt including one just 4 years ago. You need to big picture it. Even if they suck this year, they've proven enough to never be tagged, "Losers," and you just say, "shit, we'll get them next year."

Now for the Vikings, Bills, Bengals, Eagles, Chargers, Falcons, Titans, Panthers, Seahawks, Cardinals, Jaguars, Texans, Lions and Browns fans, I can see the anxiety as they have never won the Superbowl and even storied franchises like the Cardinals, Eagles and Lions can be labeled losers if they leave past victories too far in the past.

Some teams, like The Giants, the Steelers, The Pack, they don't have to really sweat a bad season here and there, you know?

What are you talking about? The steelers went an entire decade sucking ass. How many terrible towels were waving in the 80's?! The pack!?! Until Reggie White went there, they were the basement of the nfl for near two decades. Prior to the 80's the 9ers were horrendous. The Giants went ovef a decade without making the playoffs and were perenial losers in the 70's. Let's not pretend that some teams are immune to prolonged bouts of suck. None are. All of the consistently successful franchises of today will eventually fall back into years of losing. It happens to every team eventually.

The Pack are the most Championship winning team in NFL History. Nothing diminishes that, besides, that's not what I said. What I said was, When you have 80 years of Championship badass under your belt, you can let a few bad years or whatever slide. That's why Chicago gets so much respect despite being able to win only 1 Superbowl so far. They're still the second most Championship winningest NFL team of all time. Of course with almost 30 years since their last one, one does start to raise an eyebrow at the team, but it's not the same as a Team like the Bills, who have never won one. Honestly though, the Giants were pretty shitty for almost 2 decades from the 60's through the 70's, but we're still not the fucking Cards, who haven't won a Championship in over 70 years, which is longer than all the newbie teams have been alive. :laughing

The '85 Bears had the most dominant defense I have ever seen, and yet they only made it to one Super Bowl, then all their big egos caused the team to implode as they focused on being divas not playing football. Kinda lost respect not gained it imho. A one-year dynasty, sad. :laughing

Does NYG WR Cruz know that the regular season started tonite?! Cause he sucked ass. Good game though overall. I thought the Refs did a fine job.

13-3 is Very Good.
I expect SF to do better in the play-offs (Of Course!)

As for Right Now - I am pissed off with Eli and the Giants for losing to Dallas. I love to watch Dallas lose. And that didn't happen.

just as I thought, a few Giants would still have superbowl hangovers. Cruz seemed to still be in vacation mode.

Dallas was very sloppy. 13 or 14 penalties and win? that's old-school Raiders football right there.

if NY played their A game, I think they would have blown Dallas out.

Looks like the Cowboys made the right improvements to their defense, though. The corners did a much better job than last year, and the Giants big receptions seemed to come when the corners gambled on going for interceptions, with the possible exception of Hixon's amazing catch. Bradshaw can not carry the running game by himself, either.

not convinced quite yet...the corners would have looked a lot worse if Cruz would have hauled in his three drops.

I'm not sure Cruz is going to have the same success as last year w/o Manningham, and he certainly won't be flying under the radar of defensive coordinators, but yeah, those drops were critical.

Manningham to the Niners is looking like a bad move alright huh NYG fans?

:laughing

It's only one game you fantasy football freaks, sheesh, let the season meander down its path before you all panic. There were no injuries. I thought Romo looked terrible first half then read he was 22 of 29 I think. Their running game was solid and G-men didnt have a stop for that.

Fans wanted Coughlin's head 3/4 through the season, what happened. The team got back a few players and won the whole thing.

I'm a Niner's was sick to my stomach after our playoff exit and still get a lil heartburn wondering what it would be like if Aaron Rodgers was drafted by the Niners instead of Alex Smith.....but I like where the team is at and feel Smith will have a break out year in yards and TD's.

No, everyone and their grandma knew that Manningham was a steal for the Niners. Cruz and Nicks are better though, so if we could only afford to have 2, we chose the best 2 I think. Fuck, last night I was seriously wondering WHY we have a preseason. The Giants just seemed straight rusty and kind of clunking out of the gate. I mean, I knew it could go either way and the Cowgirls were looking pretty good this year, but the guys didn't really seem to get rolling till the second half. I'm certainly not too concerned after losing one pretty close game, but I am worried about the O-Line problems we had last year getting worse. The pass was too rushed too often and we were not getting what we needed done on the ground, which stinks of the O-Line not holding up its part of the deal.

^ Dallas' D may have had something to do with the o-line looking bad.

I think that whole unit under-performed last year and should be much better this year.

edit - on a bright note, NY pass rush looks stupid good, as usual. on a bad note, are you gonna get your new CB's from the AFL? lol.

Don't get me wrong, not to take away from the Dallas D, they were good and I'm sure we would have dominated against a shitty D like the Bucs or the Panthers, but these were problems we had last year that I'm seeing as unresolved. The whole reason Air Manning became an unstoppable juggernaut last year was because we had to pitch that fucking thing every play before the line collapsed. That was because we cut a number of O-Line vets without seriously shoring up the holes and now this year we have significantly less weapons to rely on. The decades consistent NYG rule of, "Fuck it, cut him, maybe we'll draft one," is sometimes very frustrating.
