The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

How many teams take a 5 year "hiatus" and expect to win? :laughing

The current Browns are basically an expansion team with a library. Now 16+ years into their "new era", excuses are running out. (Have there been any teams added since '99?)

Hopefully Jackson can turn it around for them, Cleveland deserves better, ok, leme rephrase that, Cleveland deserves something, anything....

BTW Kestrel, you were called out in the Warriors thread after the thumping the Dubs put on the Cavs last week. :laughing

The Browns have had two winning seasons since they "restarted" in 1999 They even made the playoffs in 2002 I think. They were 10 - 6 in 2007. The Front office is a joke, much like the Bengals was when Mike Brown had total control as a GM. Much like I hope continues with Santa Clara with York at the helm. Cleveland will turn it around.

That might have some validity if Cleveland wasn't already the most 'losing-est' place in America, who has gone longer than any other major city/area without a professional sports championship in any of the major sports.

1964 - the Browns take the NFL title, pre superbowl... and then.. drought. That is not 'a decade', my friend, but for many, an entire lifetime. Suffering is all that Cleveland sports fans know, be it the so close but blown game 7 of the Indians against Florida, or the blown 3-1 lead again Boston, or the Cavs terrible record, then Lebron, then The Decision, followed by burnt jerseys, or the Browns list of 24 or 25 QBs since 1999.

We're talking about Cleveland, man. Cleveland.

The Browns have won multiple championships. Many NFL franchises have won none. Wash the makeup off your face and embrace your team.

Davis needs a plan, his "coat-tailing" isn't working.

1) I'm fairly certain the league (owners) will try to stop him from getting anything he wants, for the mere reason of his last name...which may be good news if they have to stay in the bay area.

2) I'm fairly certain he has little to no business acumen to really be a driving force for anything other than coat-tailing....which still may work out for them staying put.

I'm sure the league would pull their $100 million dollar offer as well....

He may have to bring in a corporate partner (a la the Giants), but that means giving up control, but sitting around and waiting for billionaires to solve your problems, Libby Schaff, or Carson, or San Diego, or San Antonio, isn't getting him anywhere.

The A's may just get their baseball only park, by default.

Sadness.. Depression.. Cleveland.

Admittedly, I deliberately didn't go to the Warriors thread ;) Actually, turned the game off with quite a few minutes to play. Cavs got bopped by GS, and the recent Bulls game was even worse. 2 for 70 on free throws, or at least it felt that way... And what a god awful shooting percentage. Awful, awful set of games, and they didn't even look remotely like themselves.

... and... then Blatt was dismissed. Lue is laying down the cardio law, and trying to speed up the pace of the game, which will probably help them out. Be interested to see what sort of transformation might be possible in the rest of the season. If everyone recalls, the Cavs were pretty bad during this time period last year, too... and in mid/late Jan, started to get very hot. Hopefully that happens again.

Anyway, Davis claims that broken arm be damned, he's not missing the Super Bowl. Already had a plate installed, and is healing up. We'll see how well those plans work out.

This guy played a Super Bowl with a broken leg:

True, they won two Super Bowls since they left that shithole Cleveland and moved to Baltimore. :p

The NFL, the City of Cleveland and the City of Baltimore all say you are wrong, you should probably reconsider that opinion.

But you don't have a football team. :p

As far as I am aware, the Chargers are still 100% a part of San Diego and Qualcomm stadium until otherwise contracted.

Don't forget the Ford family, and what they've done to the Lions.

Sadly, you fumbled your response but at least you had the drive to comment.

The statement is 100% correct and every legal and peer recognized historical document on earth supports it. If you have supporting evidence otherwise, by all means, present it.

:dunno

Can you name the Cleveland Browns draft picks from 1995-1999? :teeth

No, because they did not have them. As clearly documented in the NFL records of the move to Baltimore by the new Ravens franchise, the Cleveland Team would be temporarily on hiatus until new fiscal arrangements could be made for the franchise in Cleveland. The history, trophy property, and all legacy material of the Cleveland Browns was dedicated to the new contract arrangement in Cleveland BEFORE the Baltimore move happened.

This is not some random ass situation where the Browns closed up shop, bailed out, and then a new franchise just jumped into Ohio and just randomly decided they were the Browns, there is a chain of planned and documented continuity. Are you going to suggest the Steelers and Eagles are not the real teams, because they did not operate in 1943?

while this is mostly true, there was way more to the story.

Modell was packing his bags and he intended to have a Baltimore Browns team, with all the history and personnel.

Cleveland sued Modell and the NFL, and through much negotiation it was decided that Cleveland would retain rights to the history of the Browns franchise but temporarily suspended until a new team could be formed. The Baltimore team then became the Ravens and was considered a 'new' team although they retained the personnel.

so really, the Browns (via Modell) did indeed to intend to close up shop and bail out
