The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

If professional athletes get praised for winning and setting good examples then it's fair game when they fall very short of those things.

It's a mistake to project anything other than athletic performance onto them. And it's never fair game to kick a person when they're down unless they meant to kill you to begin with. Then kick away, by all means. But sport isn't a matter of life and death. It's rather silly to think a person with Newton's personality is going to act cordial when he loses. I'm not making any excuse for his personality. I just think it's preposterous for folks to expect any different. And if you're going to be disappointed by that expectation it's on you, not him.

Didn't watch the game, were my predictions from two weeks ago accurate? :laughing

You were 100% right. That Denver D is the real deal. Carolina's O had some spark but they could never keep it up consistently. Their Ocoordinator should be thinking about his game plan real hard. There were holes in the Denver D but they couldn't exploit them consistently.

I'm not personally projecting anything onto anyone. Good sportmanship is not a malleable idea based on how one feels after a win or loss. Maturity dictates that one is gracious in winning AND in defeat. It's the lesson little children are taught in every organized sport.

Well there's more to the story. Apparently the press was conducting a separate interview with Broncos players in the exact same room. At the last question, Cam stops answering while a Broncos player is talking a little bit of smack in the background, rather loudly, which supposedly contributed to his dislike of the situation and subsequent walkout.

Very poorly planned interview setup.

How was he a poor sport? He did what was required. He went to the post game presser and answered the questions asked. A failure to meet your expectations of his demeanor while doing so isn't a knock on him. That's all on you.

Good sportsmanship?

The dude had a HUGE smile on his face congratulating Manning on the field right when the clock hit zeroes.

Manning himself said Cam was gracious and humble and congratulated him on the win.

Just because he doesn't sit through the same dumb questions over and over while he's got to hear the Broncos talk about winning at same time (they were only separated by a curtain, you can hear the audio of the Broncos going on during Cam's presser) doesn't mean anything about his sportsmanship.

Miller will never see FA.

Yeah, every DC in the NFL is drooling with their eyes rolled back in their heads at the prospect, but that cat is going NO WHERE. He is getting paid and laid till the cows come home in Denver. How often do you get to be Superbowl MVP in a contract year? It has probably NEVER happened to a Defensive player before.

I would be looking to see who else I might be able to pilfer off the roster due to salary cap problems they are going to have from paying Brock Osweiler AND Von Miller. This super team was assembled to win Manning a ring and it won't stay fully intact very long. Miller will probably not be going anywhere for years though. Talib, Ware, that one Safety they signed (Ward?) all guys who signed short free agent deals to win a championship.

bullshit. It isnt about my expectation at all. People in this thread keep wanting to make this personal to me and it isnt. Thats silly. Even his own teammates acknowledged he should have been more mature about his press conference. I'm not the only one who realized he acted like a child.

"Cam's offensive line is shit."

캠의 공격 라인은 똥이다

:laughing

I am disappoint. It's already Tuesday and I haven't seen one Eldritch post talking about the Panthers gettin' assraped by Von Miller and crew.

Yeh, you do the honors. There must be some coach firings or something to start the ball rollin. Or do we wait for the combine or whut....

Cam doesn't care about you!

(Followup interview to the post-game interview... Clarifies a lot, I think.)

http://blackandbluereview.com/video-cam-newton-responds-to-post-super-bowl-criticism/

"I've been on record to say I'm a sore loser,'' Newton said on Tuesday as players cleaned out their lockers. "Who likes to lose? You show me a good loser and I'm going to show you a loser. It's not a popularity contest. I'm here to win football games.''

Newton said if he offended anyone, "that's cool." "But I know who I am and I'm not about to conform nor bend for anybody's expectations because your or anybody else's expectations will never exceed mine,'' Newton said.

Newton hasn't spoken to the media in his previous four seasons on exit day, but he felt compelled to talk on Tuesday amid criticism of him. He said there were no regrets about how he handled himself after the loss.

"It happened,'' he said. "I didn't want to talk to the media at the time. The truth of the matter is I really still don't want to talk to the media. But at the end of the day things have to happen.

"I had a lot of time to go back and play everything back. I'm human. I never once said that I was perfect. I never proclaimed that I was perfect, but at the end of the day people pick and do things of that sort.''
