The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

Here's a great article on the history of the miss titled West Coast Offense, and no huddle offense. Every football fan born in Cincinnati before 1990, and most after that, know this story already, but most NFL fans dont. Glad to see it being told. The Cincinnati Bengals franchise history really does resemble a Greek Tragedy.

More seriously, Brian, I'm going to be in the city tomorrow night through Thursday morning for a conference. You want to grab a beer?

[Same goes for you, Eldirty, or anyone else in this thread.]

Yeah, after business hours Mon-Wed could work for me. Let me know, I'm downtown.

“After a few years of thought, I’ve decided it will be best for me to take a year or so away from the NFL. This will be a time for me to allow my Brain and Body a chance to heal. I know many won’t understand my decision, that’s ok,” Davis said. “I hope you too have the courage to live your life how you planned it when day dreaming to yourself growing up. Your Life is Your dream and you have the power to control that dream. Im simply doing what’s best for my body as well as my mental health at this time in my life.”

another guy who has had several concussions, too.

Not enough concussions if he's still running away from the Niners.

:laughing

Yeah, I checked and apparently this is the last year of his contract and he says he will be back in a year. This seems like a pretty clear case of a dude who would rather not get paid and take his chances as a free agent who hasn't played a down in a year than play for the Niners in 2015. WTF York Family? I wonder if Borland will be back, I really liked watching that kid play, I hope he returns to the NFL too.

Haha. No one wants to play for the9ers.

It's ok 9ers fans. The Raider Nation welcomes you. :twofinger

He signed a 5 year extension on 2010.

If he comes back to the league, that contract resumes. He'll have one season left with the Niners no matter when he comes back.

That's not really true.

I'm pretty sure if/when he comes back, he'll make it clear that he won't play a down for them and the best they can do is move on.

Why try to hold a contract over his head at that point? You've gotten your bonus money back, and he obviously does not want to play for you -- AT ALL -- and was gracious enough to refund the bonus and retire. He could have kept it and held out, or simply warmed a bench and collected a check until they were forced to cut him.

I'd be very surprised if they did anything of the sort.

yes, amongst other injuries.

and...hey, why not guys? yes it's unfortunate that the SC niners are running into these vacancy problems almost solely. This could be happening to any other team. This is a warrior who's been playing through injury for a long time now. why not let his body rest, see where the 9ers are in a year, and then rejoin when he can make, maybe?, a pro-bowl caliber contribution?

I really see no problem here. good luck to the man in his recovery.

fucking football players...thinking for themselves and their familes!?!?! brilliant, really. they are the strongest, and the smartest, that american sports has to offer.

Are you sure? I thought if he went to OTAs then he was considered to have been active for the year? Is that not the case? I mean, if a guy retires mid season with a year left, he doesn't owe you 8 games on his contract if he comes back in a year. I guess you could reserve the right to franchise the guy though.

He signed a 5 year extension in 2013 that kept him with the Niners until 2019. He is paying back his prorated signing bonus over the next few years which is almost $5M. That still doesn't release him from his contract though.

He hasn't appeared in OTAs this season. I don't know at what point the league considers that he has appeared, but since the new season rolled over he hasn't participated in any team events.

Davis did post on twitter that "he'd be back in a year or so after letting his body and brain heal" so... who knows.

As much as I'd like to think this were true I believe players do not want to play for Baalke and York. Baalke in particular. I'm beginning to see Baalke as a beady eyed rat in desperate need of a solid dose of strychnine. I would not doubt it if I were told a story that Baalke "helped" S. McCloughan fall off the wagon when he was with the 9ers.
