The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

One of the "Bold Predictions" on ESPN this morning, the 49ers will have the number one pick in next year's draft.

I'm onboard with Kelly's Heroes now, if they keep Kaep that is. I wanna see that dude running a dope-fast offense, go go go go. Defense will be all puking on the sidelines. :laughing

I think Gabbert will run Kelly's offense better.

I like the hurry up offense. I don't think you need to run a play every 12-15 seconds though. To me "hurry up" is more getting the play in, getting it called, and getting to the line. No reason to rush it after that. Gives the QB time to absorb what's in front of him. Given that I think Yo-Gabba-Gabba will run it better as well. He has what it takes between the ears. Squidward only has it from the neck down.

He really does look like him....

The first few seasons of that show were fucking awesome

Doubtful. Davis wants his signing bonus back, or at least whatever he forfeited when he retired.

Anyone have thoughts on speculation that ADavis and the Giants will reach a trade deal with the 49ers?

http://nypost.com/2016/05/03/could-giants-swoop-in-on-tackle-desperate-for-49ers-trade/

I have a hard time seeing it happen. In years past, I would say NEVER. Public media spats with management, extreme contract drama, and blockbuster trade deals are the antithesis of the Giants way, but with Jerry Reese taking an off color YOLO approach to try g to save his job this year, it may somehow happen pending a physical. Since the only thing keeping NYG from taking the awful NFC East last year was injuries, the recent fragility of Davis (especially the concussion history) could get in the way of a deal.

All the same, based on the Kaep situation, it appears the 49ers will demand top dollar no one is willing to pay for any talent they have their hooks in that hasn't abandoned them yet. If Davis is reinstated, they will probably demand a first rounder or some crazy shit for him. I suspect Baalke would rather poison his locker room than let guys go on the cheap that don't like the club.

lol he hasn't demanded top dollar. I can only assume you're talking about Kaepernick, in which case he told Elway to get fucked when he wanted SF to pay money and take a shitty pick to deal a guy that they had no reason to deal.

And it doesn't look like Davis is going to be in the locker room any time soon. The o line has changed a bit since he was so it'll be difficult for him to poison it.

Davis still hasn't even filed reinstatement paperwork with the NFL.

He is a nonissue at this point to any team in the league. Until the point that he actually files papers to return to the league, he may as well not exist.

agreed.

further complicating the issue is that any potential trade partner would have to be absolutely convinced Davis wouldn't just retire again after a short period

fwiw i do think Davis is a really good tackle. assuming he's committed he's worth a 2nd rounder at least.

I think he was a really good tackle.

After not playing a whole year, who knows.

Time for a new rush of player signings this week.

May 12th is the day teams can sign free agents without it affecting them via compensatory draft picks.

Sounds like the Dolphins are trying to scoop DB Leon Hall from the Bengals. Sorry, elbacy. :p

I like Hall, but there really isnt a spot on the roster for him in 2016. With Jones, Kirkpatrick as starters, plus first rounders Dennard and Jackson behind them, he's unneeded. He lost his starting spot last season due to declining skill and could still only get on the field as the nickle db after Dennard was put on IR. He played well but his skills have severely diminished after two Achilles rebuilds and offseason back surgery. He's no longer a quality starting db. There's a reason he wasnt offered a contract. But hey...when you suck as bad as the Dolphins do....:twofinger
