Is the R9 next?

So as a track bike to play on it sounds great for the lower HP crowd. I’m interested… but if its so outclassed by the Aprilia will anyone race it?
There's no upgrade path for the R6 to attract new buyers. And with such a high price, why not just buy an R1.
There is definitely an upgrade path for this R7. I bet it'll get ride-by-wire and TC in 3-4 years - with a higher MSRP to convince people to buy. Eventually it will reach the same feature set as the current R6 and sales will stagnate. Then Yam will release another low cost bike of a different format and slowly upgrade it. Rinse & repeat.
Is the R9 next?![]()
They're going to sell a fuck ton of these.

Yeah some of the high-end TC and IMUs from the R1 will probably trickle down to a R7-rr of some sort in a year or two. But I think it's already ride-by-wire. There's an optional quickshifter so it likely has ride-by-wire.
80HP? why?
okay it has better brakes and suspension but still those things should just be on the MT-07 or make a MT-07R
Well said!I cannot wait for this bike. This is what middleweight super sports should be like, along with the April RS. Sporty, great cornering, suspension and brakes; and comfortable enough to commute on if you want to. All you 600 SuperSport commuters should be absolutely lusting over this and the RS. I don't understand the hate. So what if it shares a name with a previous bike? It's not like it erases the history of the original...As someone else before said, this IS the SV650R that everyone has been wanting since the SV was launched.
Now is a great time to be into motorcycles. We have the R7, RS660, Duke 890 R (rode one, it's absolutely ridiculously fun. They got it RIGHT), factory supermotos (not enough yet), the Panigale V2, real adv bike like the 790/890 instead of just the SUV-like 1200cc GS's... The industry is finally realizing that most people don't want/can't ride for shit the most capable track weapons. Instead, they are making bikes that are plenty capable on the twisties and track, but don't punish you for riding like normal person when you need to.
