The Yamaha R7 Thread

Quick shifters do not require ride-by-wire. They just cut ignition and have nothing to do with the throttle.

The FZ-07 and MT-07 up to 2019 were not ride-by-wire. Was it added for 2020 or 2021? I can find anything that says it was added. Yamaha would make a big deal about that improvement and would have YCC-T listed in the specs for any of these bikes.

Very true. I was under the impression the 07 and 09 platform went ride-by-wire recently and their QS was also auto-blipping. But it's entirely possible that it wasn't. Maybe I'm thinking of the MT-10 which has QS & auto-blip?

My Google-fu says that the FZ-09 debuted with ride-by-wire, but not the 07. The MT-10 now has quick shifting (added in 2018 here in the US) but no auto-blipper.

It Will be fantastic. I bought an SV650S back in 2000 and was dissapointed. I sold it 6 months later. This adresses the issues I had.

I cannot wait for this bike. This is what middleweight super sports should be like, along with the April RS. Sporty, great cornering, suspension and brakes; and comfortable enough to commute on if you want to. All you 600 SuperSport commuters should be absolutely lusting over this and the RS. I don't understand the hate. So what if it shares a name with a previous bike? It's not like it erases the history of the original...As someone else before said, this IS the SV650R that everyone has been wanting since the SV was launched.

Now is a great time to be into motorcycles. We have the R7, RS660, Duke 890 R (rode one, it's absolutely ridiculously fun. They got it RIGHT), factory supermotos (not enough yet), the Panigale V2, real adv bike like the 790/890 instead of just the SUV-like 1200cc GS's... The industry is finally realizing that most people don't want/can't ride for shit the most capable track weapons. Instead, they are making bikes that are plenty capable on the twisties and track, but don't punish you for riding like normal person when you need to.

Agreed i think its vey cool, sure liter bikes are great but its taken me years to realize you dont really need 180hp on the street. Less really is more. I bet this bike will be a blast and at that price its very tempting :)

Meh.... Sad that the super sport class is dying. Not everyone wants eat $1,000 in tires every track day with a 200hp liter bike.

Hopefully this means a price drop on 2018+ R6 used market.

What was it about the SV that disappointed you? Just curious.

The suspension was poor. I did the emulators and springs but it still sucked. I liked the motor alright but overall it came across as bland.

I agree, off the shelf sucked if you were more than a commuter. I've done two with the GSXR conversion, although both had ohlins shocks, a good re valved GSXR shock would still work better than stock. Plus the added radial brakes. Sell all your stock sv replaced parts, you would only be out of pocket $200-$400 bucks depending on what gsxr front end you bought. I paid less than $500 for a complete front end with wheel.:thumbup
