Toyota problems could be electronics

Personally, I'd like to see Toyota sell the Avensis here, sorta pushes the style bar a little higher than the Toyotas sold here....

Considering all the European-based models Ford has been bringing over here, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Japanese manufacturers bring some of their Japan-only stuff over as well.

The Avensis is pretty much sold everywhere but here, but Toyota doesn't seem to trust the US market that much, and they've made bank on that.

I would hope it if they did they wouldn't call it the new Corolla.

Given all of that, the car does post M3 like lap times at less than half the price.
The V6 versions?

It seems a bit disingenuous to intentionally give the Mustang shit for the live rear axle and then be fine with the OHV and leaf springs in the Corvette.

I don't think so.The live axle is very apparent, while the valve-train and leaf springs are pretty transparent while driving the Chevy.

Just pick up a Roush Stage 2. Great power (minus the supercharger of course...that's a Stage three) but you get the suspension and brake upgrades that really make the car come alive. And it's still cheaper than a Vette. :laughing

http://www.roushperformance.com/vehicles/mustang-2013-stage2.html

Now you're moving the discussion to the V8 models. You include luggage capacity in bang-for-the-$, I include track ability. When you look into it, the Stage 2 adds $7700 to the cost of a base Mustang, and to get the equivalent brakes of a Z06 it adds an additional $3500. Now the car is $44K+. The stage 3 adds $16.5K to the base price, and still doesn't come with the $3500 big brakes. Roush makes great additions to the cars, but they still don't address my desires. They are nose heavy (Stage 3 more so), and 300-500lbs heavier (depending on whose scale you believe) than the Chevy.

Typical KS thread :laughing Waaaay off-topic.

In the end, the Mustang isn't meant to compete against the Corvette and its apples and oranges.

It is apples and oranges, I know. :teeth

Still :love the Roush's and probably always will. :drool

OK, sorry about the thread jack! :teeth

The 'vette leaf springs are hardly standard leaf springs. I don't know of any other car that uses transverse leaves, let alone transverse fiberglass leaves.

The V6 versions?

No, sorry. Am referring to the V8. It seems obvious if we're now making Corvette / Mustang comparisons it would be the V8. FWIW, I do NOT think the Mustang and Corvette are comparable cars. They're so different, but.......

Just being an ass......I believe the Model T had transverse leaf springs :twofinger. Of course they weren't fiberglass.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking down the Corvette. It's an absolutely fantastic car. I think the Mustang (especially the new 5.0 GT) is a fantastic car.

I think Toyota makes boring cars.

Squidly, your point on Totota not making anything performance oriented is spot on. The do have the IS-F, but even that vehicle is tamed down from what it should be.

I believe it has to do with Toyota's cost culture and supplier strategy. They simply can't do/ cross platform a good performance car currently, despite running NASCAR with a Camry. Solara...that's the model they could do something decent with by cramming their V8 block into it and beefing up the suspension/ brakes. This carries directly over to the Camry as well...but Toyota knows that peformance cars are a niche bracket, they sell too many trucks to be able to afford the hit on their average CAFE/ fleet MPG, and thus, they've given up.

Besides, who'd want their screaming fast Toyota catching on fire when you rolled the window up, anyway?

They screwed up the LF-A as well. Way too much $ for mediocre (for a supercar) performance.

I'd think that they would be able to sell a V8 family car due to their involvement in NASCAR.

There were a few cruising around Monterey during the Historics last year, and the one thing they got right was the sound those cars make... :thumbup

(Looks like a fun car after watching that "Shut Up & Drive" show on SPEED.)

Anecdotal at best. The recall doesn't include 4runners to start. With thousands of affected vehicles on the road with software problems, they are just ticking timebombs, as anyone with any experience computers...a glitch can present itself any time.
Here's the list.

Those not included

Handy truck ya got though

Nope sorry, my 06 4Runner just has the recall done at Oakland today. So it does apply. Think the news is a little late in posting.

If you want me to post the recall notice I got in the mail I will, or you can call Jazz at 510-888-1300 (I know what a weird #) and they will tell you.

Cheers.

See I was referring to the V6. The V8's are still out of a lot of buyer's price ranges. But you can't bitch about a 305 HP V6 with 31 MPG that has the performance numbers that it does and still costs just over $22K. Seriously.

Yeah, but the (stock) Mustang handles like a 3 couric turd bobbing around a toilet bowl. It is NOT a sports car. It's a pony car, and I can't imagine anyone who likes one wanting the Scion or vice versa. One you buy for the gas pedal, the other you buy for the steering wheel.

Toyota not the only Japanese manufacturer playing it safe.

Honda has been an engine builder in open wheel racing for awhile now. I have yet to see the slightest hint of "win on Sunday sell on Monday" trickle down to the passenger cars.

They pseudo brought back one of their funnest and most iconic sporty hatchback in the form of the CR-Z, but fucked it up by sucking any fun out of it by putting a heavy and gutless hybrid powertrain in it. They got the looks right, if someone would just grow some balls by specing that thing with a Civic Si powertrain and tighten up the handling, they'd have a waiting list for that thing.

Plus the upcoming Acura NSX is going to come up waaaaay short in performance compared to the cars it's going to compete with.

At least Nissan is trying. Seems like the GT-R gets faster and better every model year.

Why would they go after the sports car market, the money is in the cheapo eco cars.

Yup. Toyota is pretty happy just essentially being the Wal Mart of the automotive world.

Exciting cars do get people looking at your brand though. Corvette has never been a bread and butter car for GM, but it gets people lusting after one in the future. And maybe they come in and buy a Camaro to have something cool in the meantime.

Until Volvo came out with the C70, they have been making some boring as fuck cars. I drove the C70...still as boring and soulless to drive as every other Volvo made in my lifetime. But at least for awhile I gave them a second look.

But I will say Toyota does have one standout that has good performance for what it was designed for. The FJ cruiser. Not too practical since it gets shit mileage, but damn. One of my service writers just got some special edition one that's solid red paint with black wheels and trim...that is a neat looking rig. Wouldn't mind having it myself.

You guys should really look at C&D's lightning lap results (LL1) for a good idea of what's what. Some of you have no idea what you're really talking about...(hint: the Cobalt SS and the Mustang V6 lead that pack).

The V6 stang is about the best dollar for dollar. Faster than an Evo? yup. Faster than a 350Z-track? Yup. Faster than a WRX? Yup.

Go figure.
