Toyota to move HQ to Texas

Yeah-the nice weather. I hate shoveling snow and I'm too lazy to move to my house back East.

I'm still trying to harass you for claiming that a larger economy is superior. I still don't see why that would be the case.

I'd like to find a stat on how many people are born, raised, die in the same state. It's pretty amazing how many people you run into that have never been outside the country, or state even, hell, their town!

I was born in Ventura, raised there and Manhattan Beach, then traveled the country and the world with the Army for about eight years before returning to California again. There's honestly only one other state I'd truly consider living the rest of my life in and that's Tennessee. California has so much to offer that other states simply do not. And that's only if you can see past the political bullshit for five minutes and actually look around.

Outside of the weather and the geography i just don't see it. Diverse food MAYBE, but you can get that in pretty much any large metro area so i don't really see it as a selling point. The traffics horrible, it's expensive, the people aren't the friendliest. What am i missing?

I'm not from the US but I've worked in 4 different states and 4 different countries.
By a wide margin I'd rather be in California than any place I've ever lived or visited.
Although I make more money by paying less tax elsewhere so thats keeping me away for now :(

What do the major metropolitan areas have to do with the rest of the state? California has over 163,000 square miles to explore. It's not all cities.

That's exactly my point, outside of the coast line and the sierras what does CA have? It's all desert. I'm waiting on you to tell me what else there is. It's too over populated and expensive in the nice parts of CA for me to be able to enjoy.

No denying there is bullshit wherever you go.
One must decide for themselves which type of bullshit they will tolerate.
I decided that California's bullshit was intolerable.

That being said, I have lived in many states, visited many others extensively, and have yet to find a place I liked for more than a few years.

"Nice parts" is subjective. Just because I don't want to live in El Centro doesn't mean it's not "nice" for someone else. And furthermore, you're painting with an EXTREMELY large brush when suggesting the rest of the state outside of the coasts and Sierras is a desert. I suppose Napa Valley is a desert then. Or how about the Mendocino, Shasta and Lassen National Forests? All deserts too, right? :|

Should I go on? The entire state of California is not a desert.

Yet you seem to think everywhere else is?

As for this photo, I just don't get it. I know there's some people that think living in isolation is a great thing but I just can't understand it. Humans are fundamentally social creatures. The whole living in the middle of nowhere to stay away from people just doesn't make sense to me. But of course, YMMV.

I supposed, but for some reason the homes in areas that I consider nice start at .5 mil dollars for a fixer upper. If ya find a nice place cheaper than that there are absolutely no jobs what so ever around. Wish i had better taste, like all those cen cal people who lucked out with all that prime real estate :laughing , gimme a break.

To enjoy CA, the way i'd like to enjoy CA, i need to make a hellov a lot more money than I am now. Which is unfortunate because I feel as if I make pretty good money (knock on wood).

I'm not trying to bash CA, I love CA, i've lived there since Kinder Garden all the way up through a couple years ago. I still consider it home, all of my immediate family still lives there as does the wifes, minus one sister. When people ask me where i'm from i still say CA, even though i live in NV now.

I just refuse to spend 3/4 mil dollars on a house and still have to worry about my car getting broken into. CA is nice, it's just not that nice.

I'm not rich, Rex. Yet I can still afford to disappear for a few days and ride around this beautiful state. You don't have to make a lot of money to do that. Some people just have different priorities. :dunno

Vast majority of other cities can't hold a candle to the diversity offered in SF and LA offer. Only exceptions are Miami, Chicago, NY, maybe Seattle but not really. There are still lots of big cities where little kids will look at you funny if you're Asian, because they've never seen one before.

Oh and as far as real entertainment? Not just bars and casinos?

How many artists & entertainers consider Cincinnati or Reno as destinations they would move to?

Bought last year - 10 acres, an hour to Tahoe (or Sac, or Reno), built in '04, pine trees, 2k sq-ft shop - $235k and 1.03% property taxes. You can find good stuff with a little luck.

I paid over $100K more than that for a damn condo. I get 0 acres and if I park more than one bike or change the oil in my parking stall someone bitches.

Hard to imagine you'd ever lose $$$ on your place.

Okay, not really sure where you're going with this considering there aren't a whole lot of asians in the united states to begin with. Yes, the majority of them are in the SF bay area. That's about as much as a selling point for me as saying there are a lot of somalis in Minneapolis. I guess that's cool, but i don't really give a f*ck. As far every other ethnic group, as long as you're in a large metro area chances are you'll run into them.

Entertainers don't just tour one city, as much as you'd like to think so.

I donno, do you? Why do you care where Tom Cruise lives?

We looked a little bit at Pollock Pines, but determined that we'd prefer live off I-80 for access to Reno, North Tahoe, Donner, Bowman and all that good stuff. So, we're a little east of Colfax. Don't get me wrong, your area is bitchin IIRC, with quick access to Mt. Rose, Incline, etc.
