Triumples Triple Failure...

With current computer engineering, it appears to be possible to make pretty much any engine configuration work (balance) long enough that other part failures or service intervals will become more important. Either with use of balance shafts or without them. Sure, good primary balance probably results in less compromises during the design phase, but inline 4 cylinders aren't much better.

All engines are compromised one way or another. Pistons shooting up and down a cylinder connected to a crankshaft with controlled explosions as a propellant are always going to create some vibration concerns in the long run.

I think your dad has an overly fundamental view in his belief that the Triumph 3 is troubled by nature. He needs to read up on more advanced engineering techniques.

yeah, agreed, I'm going to show him some of my new found knowledge on this matter and continue having fun w/ all the tard jars that continue to say crap w/o reading everything. But yeah thank you for an actual post instead of just continuing to add crap!

A New Game.....A New Era.....

You've misspelled the misspelling (did I spell those wrong? That would be ironic :laughing). . . we're caught in the moebius loop now! :wow :nerd

yeah, one s, but its ok.. at least its a common mistake and nothing like sprot biles or triupmples

17 years ago when I bought an aluminum-framed mountain bike. People said the frame would last no longer than 1-2 years

I broke a Cannondale 3.0 road bike at the middle of the drive side chain stay (middle of the tube, aparently due to fatigue), back in 1990 after one year of use. I have recently tried to use my old Aluminum baseball bats from my childhood and cracked the shit out of them. Aluminum definitely fatigues over time and use.

That is some endurance story with that Klein of yours.

all types of frames will break or crack over time w/o enough riding on them. My dad had a carbon fiber frame on this bike (he isn't into mountain biking, street riding) and he always great care of his bike, but even still, only time will tell.

well with 120 degree firing order I would think the balance would be very good. im not sure thats how they are configured if you had two pistons up and one down there would be condsiderable shaking. i had several three cylinder kawasakis back in the day and they shook like crazy. parts cracked all the time but the motor was pretty sound. those are the only 3 cylinders ive owned.

Sprotbile is an intended misspelling and is a running joke here and on several other forums. :shhh He actually missed an R as well, which was what I was talking about, not leaving the s off the end.

i hate to say it but your propably going to kill yourself before you even get that bike because of all the anal abuse you recieved from your father.
RIP young man

sounds like someone's dad molested someone and now someone has a few issues. it's probably not squirrls though. oh wait. it probably IS squirrls.

Sorry to refute, but many materials will last indefinitely provided that the applied stress is below the endurance limit for the material. Aluminum is not one of them, but steel is. Basically, with a high enough safety factor, a design will be able to handle infinite fatigue.:nerd

What about an engineer that knows how to wrench?
(I'm not a mechanical engineer though so I know nothing about design of an engine)

squirrls, what can I say?

Evidently you don't want to hear about engines with three cylinders any more.

You don't want to hear more people telling you that your Dad is retarded.

You don't want to hear more people telling you that you're retarded.

Where do we go with this outstanding thread?

Oh yeah. I remembered. Can you ask your Dad why it is that twins vibrate a shit load more than triples? I'd love to stop the V2 lump o' shit trying to shake itself to bits all the time. Answers on a postcard or by PM would be welcome. I'm spending about $150 per month at ACE hardware replacing screws that shouldn't rattle out due to the intrinsic smoothness of my bike... :wow

Thanks in advance. :thumbup

BTW - Ian - When do I drop off your retarded T-shirt? 10th of December in the city sounds good to me... Hint HINT.

EDIT: Removed link... ;)

Gar, craptastic. Your timing is immaculate. I'm at Thunderhill all day Saturday. I'm free Sunday, however - I hear that the weather in Sunnyvale will be fantastic?

How do you know my T Shirt is retarded? Was it designed by an engineer? :later

does anybody remember the powerpuff episode where bubbles talks to squirrels.

Chi chi Cheee chi chee cheeee.
chi chi chi, chhheee chi chi chee.

there squirrels don't you feel better knowing that.
