One more . . .

My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. He can fix the Triumples!

you're just jealous because you didn't mispell it!

Triple Engines

Ok so your dad has a bit of paper saying he is clever, so can you ask him this.

If Triple are engines are so bad and a pile of Shite why is Honda developing a triple engine to race in the MOTO GP class when the engine size is reduced??:confused

Odd one that innit.

BTW Had my TRIPLE for nearly 3 years and it hasnt missed a beat:mortifer

Welcome to BARF. You might want to introduce yourself in the Newbie Thread. Then finish reading all the posts in this thread. I think everything's been covered.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long.

It just turned up on my TRIUMPH FORUM with a request to flame so I DID:angel

My brother is a mechanical engineer and went to Cal Poly too. However, he doesn't give a shit.

Hey Squirrls: Why don't you ask your dad why he thinks the triple has balance and heat issues compared to fours and then post his answer(s). It would seem to make more sense to have him prove what he's saying rather than the other way around.
BTW, dads are human and can make mistakes too.

Bah, you brits have grown soft.

Why, I remember septics being DESTROYED in UKRM...

The world is changing...

:cry

Better late than never :teeth

My dad took a physics class and told me that bumblebees are heavy and have small wings and thus cannot fly.

Can someone please send me a schematic or something of a bumblebee so I can prove to him that they CAN fly?

Unless you can give me this proof I'd recommend staying away from bumblebees because they're gonna come crashing down and they're gonna be pissed.

send me in there whereever it is and i will show you how we destroy septics...hahaha

squirrls, what can I say?

Evidently you don't want to hear about engines with three cylinders any more.

You don't want to hear more people telling you that your Dad is retarded.

You don't want to hear more people telling you that you're retarded.

Where do we go with this outstanding thread?

Oh yeah. I remembered. Can you ask your Dad why it is that twins vibrate a shit load more than triples? I'd love to stop the V2 lump o' shit trying to shake itself to bits all the time. Answers on a postcard or by PM would be welcome. I'm spending about $150 per month at ACE hardware replacing screws that shouldn't rattle out due to the intrinsic smoothness of my bike... :wow

Thanks in advance. :thumbup

BTW - Ian - When do I drop off your retarded T-shirt? 10th of December in the city sounds good to me... Hint HINT.

EDIT: Removed link... ;)

You dad just fine.
People who know little come up to a conclusion very quickly. Less things to take into account.

Hey guys- I "just got served"!!!!

By the English Professor!!!! :laughing

I was talking to my dad, who is an degreed Engineer from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and I was telling him about all the new bikes and when I got to the Triumph Triple he laughed in my face. I, obviously, confused asked whats wrong w/ the bike? He stated that one of the first things he learned in school was the major design flaws for three cylinder engines. The flaw is YOU DON'T MAKE ONE. They can't be balanced right and this causes major wear and tear in the engine and possibly heat problems. Three cylinder engines are not a good idea. although, personally, I think the 675 looks gorgeous... I totally ruled it out of my books the moment he told me this. Don't know if people have already mentioned this, but I haven't seen anything on it and thought I'd share my new knowledge on the matter.

Although this thread has become pretty shredded, later on you claim to be 'helping' people by the above (first) post. I see nothing helpful here. This is simply a bash on Triumph, and Triumph Triple owners.

My personal opinion is that you simply like to stir up arguments. This entire thread is pointless, except as entertainment, as you only wanted to cause controversy.

As for your initial statement, it sounds like similar ignorant statements I heard 17 years ago when I bought an aluminum-framed mountain bike. People said the frame would last no longer than 1-2 years before cracking, although they (like you) gave no reasons for this. My Klein, with about 8-10 THOUSAND miles on it, is still perfect. My Speed Triple, with 15k, is also perfect, and has required no maintenance- especially vibration-related repairs.

Please continue to post, but before starting arguments, have at least SOME facts.

I'm just happy you're getting the Honda.

With current computer engineering, it appears to be possible to make pretty much any engine configuration work (balance) long enough that other part failures or service intervals will become more important. Either with use of balance shafts or without them. Sure, good primary balance probably results in less compromises during the design phase, but inline 4 cylinders aren't much better.

All engines are compromised one way or another. Pistons shooting up and down a cylinder connected to a crankshaft with controlled explosions as a propellant are always going to create some vibration concerns in the long run.

I think your dad has an overly fundamental view in his belief that the Triumph 3 is troubled by nature. He needs to read up on more advanced engineering techniques.

OH shit! I just heard Triumph is recalling ALL speed triples, Tigers, Sprint ST, and Daytona 955's. Apperently they just realized they totally forgot a cylinder on those things.

"oops, our bad." was the official statement.

Benelli is scrambling to make sure they didn't just make the same mistake.

:rolleyes to all of the guys who are still commenting on how my dad is retarded. It's already been proved that it wasn't my dads fault, but mine since I provided him with insufficient information. it has been proved that the 3 cylinders DO shake a lot, but with a balancer deal that can be totally corrected and we already stated that I am seriously enjoying this thread. it is fun for me to repeat myself to people such as you how post on a thread but don't read past the first page or even past the first initial post.... congratulations on being a day late and congratulations on not acomplishing anything productive.
