TV Shows I am enjoying …and Movies

We've been on a military theme binge for the last couple months, watched Reacher, Jack Ryan, and The Terminal List, all seasons all on Prime. All good and worth watching, following similar core themes of eight episodes per seasons and doing a good job wrapping up stories in each season, no tofu filler episodes on any of them. I liked the Jack Reacher movies with Tom Cruise and was initially turned off to the idea of a big musclehead gorilla playing a character that's supposed to blend in and lay low, but would see some clips here and there on Youtube and decided to give it a go, which I'm glad I did and it was my favorite of the three.
Actually in the books Reacher is 6'5" and not built to blend in anywhere. Tom Cruise was really too short to play him but they tried to make it work. I was actually happy to see the new Amazon series got a person more or less the correct size to play the part.

Right.

Reacher is a big dude. I don't know how the hell they cast Tom Cruise. I can't think of an actor who is more physically wrong for the role. His movies weren't bad. They were just like... not Reacher... Just call it something else.

Who's idea was that? His own?

I don't know how the hell they cast Tom Cruise.
Author of the novels had no problem with Cruise. He felt Reachers size is more about presence than mass, and felt TC brought that to the table. I like the Cruise Reacher better than the Amazon Reacher. Amazon Reacher is more of a jerk.
new season of Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix.
Yea, LL is good stuff. Just saw the first episode of the new season.

Wife and I bought all of the seasons of 24. Just finishing Season 3, boy that's been a real firecracker.

I can accept that. Don't agree but I can accept it. If that's how the author of the novels felt, then so be it. Again, they weren't bad movies. I liked them.

Cruise's Reacher to me felt similar to the two Joker movies. I refuse to see the 2nd but the 1st one, it's a hill I'm willing to die on, the identity of the Joker is not important to his character. Nobody knows who he is, not even Batman. Just call it something else.

That was a tangent and I'll step off my soapbox.

I just want to say I’m glad I never saw that Tom Cruise version of Reacher. I love the guy they cast in the TV show. It’s inadvertently funny that he’s kind of humorless.

Alan Ritchson is awesome. So much of a right fit for Reacher.

He did great in his role as Hawk in the show Titans (nerd stuff). I'm a big fan.

I did like the Reacher movies with Cruise in them but in my mind it was not book Reacher. In the books he doesn't have a sense of humor and seems more spot on with the Amazon actor and so I like that it more accurately represents the Reacher I read about in the books. I liked both but in my mind Reacher on Amazon just feels more correct.

If mini-series are included in this I would also like to nominate Netflix's The Gentlemen if it hasn't been mentioned already. If you want you could also watch HBO's The Gentlemen as an sort of prequel. Don't know if I have mentioned it before but I just love Guy Ritchie's gangster movies.

The Gentlemen was good! There's going to be a Season 2. (y)

Lincoln Lawyer, just finished Season 3. :thumbup They gotta have a Season 4, can't leave us hanging!

Watched Hillbilly Elegy. Had no idea who it was until it got to the end. Pretty darn good movie too!

Devil’s Hour. I had said we were watching The Tower, which we finished a week ago, but I meant Devil’s Hour. It;s mind-bending.

I have an archaeologist friend who loathes Graham Handcock but I just had to tune into latest installlments of Ancient Apocalypse. Mostly because it’s really good footage of all the bucket list cool things on the planet made way long ago. Handcock is pretty absurd and they do way too many shots of him talking. And he got Keanu Reeves on there to make minimally understandable points. But I watch.

Escape at Dannemora has just come to Netflix. This eight-episode character study examines the two prisoners' escape attempt from a upstate New York correctional facility and any help they may have had from prison staff. The first episode is a bit slow but when the story really gets going, its fascinating. Not a thriller but its very compelling.

Sorry if this is a repost. This series first streamed on Showtime six or seven years ago.

So while I'm doing work stuff, usually I have a TV show or movie on my TV I'm familiar with to passively watch or just listen to. Often, that show is Frasier.

I just got into watching the new show from last year. I like it. It's too bad David Hyde Pierce didn't come back as Niles.

But at least we have Lilith and Roz. :laughing

Thought Tom did good with the flak vest to portray Reacher but definitely on board with Alan Ritchson. If there’s another season I may have to do free prime for a week, again!
For edgy anal comedy I like Greg Gutfeld.

We watch a lot of Frasier.

The 2 new seasons are not bad. I particularly like the professor character. It's not the original, but its watchable and has some good moments.

Bringing this thread back to life! I heard of a show on Prime that is written, produced, and directed by, and stars, Alan Tudyck - it's called Con Man and It stars Alan as a TV star who got stereotyped after playing a character in a sci-fi show along with Nathan Fillion. Sound familiar? The show within the show is a thinly disguised "Firefly" and pretty much every actor from the Firefly crew shows up in vaious episodes. I binged the first season and a few episodes into the second season yesterday and I enjoyed it - some good laughs.

Funny, I'll have to check that out.

Prime has a new show "Cross" that I want to look at.

I have gone back to season one of NCIS. Enjoying it and amazed how much I forgot. It is like a whole new show in most ways. Ducky was so much younger. :rose
