warr77's rear end collision in SF

Get the bike fixed, get yourself fixed, and move on. Sure hope there aren't any lawsuits over this. People make mistakes, and if no one's really the worse for wear for it then there's no reason to get the courts involved. Your choice of course, but I've heard a lot of litigious talk...it's a shame when people take advantage of the system. :)

Has anyone suggested that since the rider has the habit of putting down both feet, that the bike more or less got shot out from under him, thus sparing him much of the impact.
If he had been sitting flat assed, with one foot down, like I do, he would've absorbed much of the impact and would have been at risk for more whiplash type injury, or worse.

Long legs save lives?

Unfortunately i am only 5'7 :) but i guess that's why i chose the gsxr, it was a pretty low bike!

^^ Naa, you chose the GSXR because all the other bikes were crap!! lol I love Sukz, sorry for being bias! But on a serious note, so glad your ok man! that was a vicious one and made me shake, brough back that slow-mo when I got taken out 2 weeks ago... Good luck with getting a new bike, there are lots of them on the market. :ride

I agree I think it was just unavoidable. 19th ave is a hard street to split on, secondly as fast as everyone drives it was a wise choice for him to not dart out in the next lane after stopping even though there was enough room to do so..

Well, I don't get it. The original was locked and video removed. Don't the TOS cover reopening junk, in both meanings?

Anyway, warr77, I don't think there is anything negative in the video with your claim, if that is why you closed it.

As said before, your insurance company WANTS the other company to pay for everything. And they should help you collect. Why people would think differently, I have no idea. Best of luck and I hope you bought that lotto ticket. :thumbup

I often do NOT split in city stuff traffic lights are at every block, so just fold into traffic. Yes, this makes me vulnerable to a rear end, but the reality is that cagers are very good drivers around here, so I just don't worry about being rear ended.

OMG. Pleeeeeease tell me you are joking bro!!!:wtf

:laughing

I can't think of a road easier to split on than 19th.

Situations like this scare me-- the sudden braking of a car in front. It looks like he miiiiight have had enough time and room to go around the guy, if that had been the first thing on his mind and if he got lucky... but it does look like he did a quick shoulder check to the left, and decided that car was oncoming too quickly for him to move out in front of it, leaving not really enough time to check for escape to the right. Once you start to slow down, your lanechanging options evaporate.

+1

Agreed. I watched the video again and he had about 1.5 seconds between the time he stopped completely and when he got hit. With normal driving conditions with the car ahead of you slowing down, you can check lanes easier, but with a sudden stop in the middle lane for whatever reason, you can't always be so vigilant. Man, I still can't believe how lucky you were to just get it knocked out from under you and stay standing. You are one lucky SOB.

The guy who got hit is on the forum. Go into the general moto section you will find the guy who got hit in there w/ the story.

Edit: I have no idea where the thread was moved too but his name on here is Warr77.. There's another thread in there but not that the rider himself posted..

FWIW, that video has motivated me to stay further to one side of my lane when stopped. I had always stayed to one side to split when needed, but now I do it to avoid becoming a human sandwich when I have no time to react.

To warr77, really glad you're ok.

To the OP of this thread, whenever I get in a situation that I feel uncomfortable in for any reason, I pull in the clutch and rev the hell out of the engine ( aftermarket unbaffled exaust on both my bikes). Basically, try to get noticed by anyone who might not've been aware I was there...

I try riding in the middle of the lane, you blend into the tail lights of cars if you drive on the left or right of the lane, but when situations like this arise, I'm checking my six and getting ready to pull around them. I refuse to sit behind cars for this reason. However, if I have to sit behind a car, I check my six and give plenty of room for me to get out of the way.

I know it is out of control now :) i just hope it becomes a reminder to all the riders (and cagers for that matter) that it only takes couple of seconds to ruin someone's life (or bike)!!!
well, i was wearing my textile jacket with sp2 gloves and dainese torque outs and jeans, which is my usual gear for quick, in town ride gear :) and my gopro of course :cool

he requested that the thread be closed. its might be a page or two deep. thread titled something about watching your 6.

and for "ride sf", i had two bros slip ons which is officially the loudest and most annoying slip on out there :twofinger
well, if an old lady doesn't see you, she probably won't hear you either :p

Why can't people respect that the video was taken down for a reason? :|

Yeah, should have never made it public in the first place.. but still, not cool. :x
