Don't worry, even though the cops are ignoring them right now, most of those guys will spend their life rotating through the prison system.
 
The reaction to this type of behavior in some parts of the country might be piano wire. Sooner or later someone has enough and implements an extreme solution to problems like this. If they are wearing helmets at least there won't be a 10 cent shopping bag charge.

The police not chasing them down is a smart move and reduces the greater danger: one of those clowns running into a ped. The chances are these idiots will just become part of the herd culling and end up dead sooner than later anyway.

Those who know and tolerate criminals are criminals.

LOL, interesting but pure fantasy. At least in SF. Trust me, it is a completely different world from what you are talking about. Oddly these sort of issues are rarely an issue for the City unless you live in the WD. Kids have been doing burnouts, donuts and wheelies etc. with cars, bikes etc. all the way back to the early 90s.

None of what you listed will stop it but one thing has and does. Techie gentrification. As more and more kids show up with fat credit cards, moving into these neighborhoods, they price all of us mere mortals out to the burbs. Social change is like a force of nature.

I honestly feel if they all disappeared society wouldn't even notice. Well maybe their families.
 
I'm reminded of those inventor moments where people get rich from recognizing a void and filling it. First thing that pops into mind is some sort of gatling gun for broom handles.

Is all speeding criminal in nature?

I witnessed a crime taking place, I feel comfortable calling them "criminals". I didn't say "professional" obviously, you don't make money this way.

I feel comfortable judging from the safety of my home they were blowing past unsafely. Kids ride their bicycles there.

Are you trying to shame us for our horrible judgement calls? lol

That's why I reject ariacode's critique. If I saw someone firing a pistol into the air smothered in blood and shouting to the sky they'd probably imply it was the same vitriol as "lane splitters".
