What have you made lately?

Custom knife holder. Strong too. Just added a 12oz cleaver and holds no problem.

That is absolutely beautiful!
I’m curious, I dropped a pair of shears in the water 10 years ago and have never been able to replace them. Do you recall where you found yours?

What do you do when its kinda slow at work but you have weird parts to hold? Welp, sometimes you get to make new tooling! Start with an old, too big to use easily, cast sin plate that you have a collection of gathering dust:

pic 1.jpg

Next, clean em up, scratch your head a bit and ty to dope out how your going to make this work:
pic 2.jpg

pic 3.jpg

Notice how the steel rods are offset to one side? That won't work if my plan on chopping these in 1/2 to make one big thing into two small useful things is going to come to fruition. time for some figuring...
pic 4.jpg

Ok, now were gonna poke some holes...
pic 5.jpg

Success!
pic 6.jpg

Now about that big cast plate..
pic 8.jpg

pic 9.jpg

No turning back now!
pic 10.jpg
pic 11.jpg

Some clearancing later and we are getting there....

Part 2 next, Sorry about the sideways thumbnails. I think they will be ok when you enlarge.

Part 2:

Ok we have the table spilt and the rods modified, now what?
pic 13.jpg

Its hard to see them but, there are a pair of machined bosses that bolt to the sub plate and capture the round rod at the back of the plate. The plate will pivot about that point and be supported and clamped on the rod at the front of the table. like so...

pic 14.jpg

In the next pic you can see how a part will mount to the sin plate. Also note, by this time I have drilled and tapped the plate for 1/2-13 hold downs and bored .188 dowel pin holes for easy fixturing.

pic 15.jpg

the two sliding toe clamps at the front of the part will be pushing against the part to lock it into place. Originally I though that simple dowl pins against the back side of the part would be sufficient to keep the part down and in place. Nope. I had to get fancy. The solution was a sliding "soft jaw" with an angle cut to match the part angle. The slotted plate is universal and can be used on any part. The bolt on "soft jaw can be easily cut to match the angle of any part. The plan...

pic 20.jpg

Super happy accident on this one, I just happnes to make the 1/2-13 and .188 holes work perfectly to mount 2-4-6 blocks in the vertical position!
pic 17.jpg

pic 16.jpg

With the slotted plate mounted to the 2-4-6 blocks, I could cut the angle I need into my sliding soft jaw. Boom!

pic 18.jpg
Pic 19.jpg

Now we are cooking!! with that set up, the part was rock solid and No gap formed underneath it. Only thing left was to tilt the table up. until that nippled surface was perpendicular to my spindle and then modify the part. We needed to reduce the size of the nipples

pic 21.jpg

Worked perfectly. I have already used this contraption on two other parts. Im pretty stoked on all of it ;)

Damn dude. Not even sure what I'm looking at but it looks cool.

I just made some pickles. no machining required! Hella good pickles. They're all but gone already. Made with cukes from my buddy's garden and my own home grown onions and garlic. Had to buy dill because I pulled the one plant I had going (Volunteer too close to one of my pepper plants).

Inspired by Sean Flynn’s Leica M2, with improvised paracord + hand grenade safety pin wrist strap.
Design based on Mad Max Fury Road paracord bracelet.
15 minutes to make, cost $0.

BTW, between the 2nd and the last (3rd) photo, which one works better, for the purpose of “showing (explaining ) the wrist strap” ?

Nice . Way better than my Hay bale strap.

Pretty cool use of paracords. Were you a scout?

Made a blanket ladder as a wedding gift for a close friend. She asked for one about 8 years ago, figure it was time ha! Had to go somewhat intricate and use loose tenon with a festool domino. Made my own dominos out of contrasting walnut. The ladder mahogany with 2 coats of a polymerized linseed oil & beeswax varnish.

During glue up, honestly thought the whole thing was going on the trays as the glue was drying and I couldn’t pound the tenons in. Then it fell when wiping varnish off cause a massive gouge. Wet rag and iron popped the gouge and needed re-sanding.

Cool part is the ladder became part of the decor in wedding photos as seen on the bookcase photo.

My little sister, Events by Pins and Petals, planned the fancy wedding and of course was pissed I brought the ladder. Brothers are supposed to always irritate their sisters so it all worked out. Btw, reach or or check out my sisters IQ @EventsByPinsandPetals for any wedding or event planning. She’s been in several magazines, no detail isn’t covered, she’s very good.

Made more hot sauce. This time I found a recipe for Serrano peppers of which I had an abundance. I am realizing it is pretty easy to make and my friends and fam all seem to like it. This is all but gone already.

Next up, ghost pepper sauce. My friend took a tiny bite from one I grew and he drooled and whined for 10 minutes. It's going to be hot.

That jar looks delicious!!

My youngest eats our pickles too fast so I have to stash them in the garage fridge and dole them out one jar at a time.
