What have you made lately?

Hi all
Made some slabs of walnut from a tree on our property. I debated wether to turn this log into firewood but I'm glad I didn't. I had already milled up the butt end a while ago with a chainsaw mill, but waited on my bandmill to do this part
since it uses a smaller kerf.
I usually cut softwoods so it was fun to do walnut also more challenging in they aren't as consistent in shape as softwoods.
Tom

Beautiful boards.

I am so jealous of people that have nice tree species on their property. That walnut looks awesome. All the trees on my property are scrub trees nothing worth building with.......Although in 50 years the Cypress I have on the backside of the pond may be worth building with but I will likely be dead by then.

I had an acquaintance in NY that had a huge white oak in his yard and it got felled in an ice storm and he had it cut into lumber and got a massive amount of board feet out of it.

Top view. Still have to do final wiring and install radar screamer. Note I have plugged into the accessory plug for power. Have a fuse block but not sure where to get switched power under the seat and not cause a CanBus problem.

Made another galette, this one was perfect. Used a cream, suger, cinnamon wash on the crust OMG :drool

We made a ramp for the Bossdog so he doesn't wreck his shoulders getting in and out of the van, truck, and off the forklift.

Built some floating shelves to use as a "pantry" of sorts, because my kitchen has ridiculously little storage and I had been using a crappy little standing cupboard. Used the crappy pine from HD, so it took plenty of coaxing to get square-ish - and lots of quality time with the sander and with some wood filler lol.

Also took the opportunity to hang up the cuckoo clock that I inherited from my great-grandparents when they passed. It was broken and dropped off at a clock shop to be repaired, and then "lost" for years. My Aunt happened to go by and asked them about it again, and magically they had found it.

Pretty much every piece of art or decoration I have on my walls is from family.

One has to ask, what's the attraction???

I mean they look nice enough in that nicely painted cabinet, but Pyrex?

durability, functionality and beautiful patterns. What's not to like? I have a small collection but I adore refrigerator jars-Westinghouse specially.

Exactly this. Plus it's fun to hunt for it at thrift stores!

Well I was watching a Brit show of a designer house that specializes in antiques and one place they visited the guy collected..................................................................cement mixers! :laughing

Finally posting some pictures of something.

Here is my 20 nest chicken coop with some glamour shots of said poultry. I also picked up another batch of chicks at tractor supply before they stopped selling them. Letting them get adjusted to the primary flock in a cage next to the main coop. I will have to take some more pictures as these don't show it totally finished. The coop measures about 7x7.

I am going to have to rethink the doors as I used 1/4 ply with some 1x3 face boards to make it lighter weight but we had it open the other day and we had severe thunderstorms and it tweaked the crap out of the door so it doesn't close correctly anymore. I may have to add bracing or a 3/4in backer to it.

In the side picture the bottom door opens down to get to the nests and the top door opens up so it hopefully makes it easier to get to the nests.

There is a door on each end and it allows us to move the outside cage we made to either end of the coop and lets the ground recover on the other side. I can also move it with the tractor to allow us to let them graze all four sides in rotation. The underneath is also open to the chickens.

We will have about 20 chickens after we combine the main flock with the new chicks.

nice work!
i want to be your neighbor. you're going to have a shitton of eggs

for the door, take the existing skin, make a frame around whichever side works best from 2x2, or 1x1 or whatever, doesn't need to be big, and put another skin on that effectively making a thin door shaped plywood box. it'll still be quite light and will resist racking and twisitng quite well. it's the same strategy as an interior hollow core door. the skin is what gives the strength, the "frame" is only there to attach hinges and keep the skins separated. in engineering speak you're increasing the Shape Factor

Thinking about selling some country eggs if it gets to be too much but not sure what the legalities are surrounding that here but I do see it a lot...

Hmm hadn't thought about taking a hollow core approach....Also may just do a 1x3 cross brace on the inside I have those laying around.

Also need to figure out how much power is needed for a few LED lights for the coop at night and then figure out a solar option to power it so I can get rid of the insanely long power cord run.

Makes me miss having chickens! I wanna be your neighbor too, love big open grassy spaces. Nice looking coop, any predators out there? Our chicken coop basically turned into a bear feeding station, so we're not having them anymore.
