What have you made lately?

Makes me miss having chickens! I wanna be your neighbor too, love big open grassy spaces. Nice looking coop, any predators out there? Our chicken coop basically turned into a bear feeding station, so we're not having them anymore.

You should check out the pics of my pond

Yeah bears are bad news you really can't do anything when they come onto your property just hope they don't trash too much.....

There are some foxes living under a house about 200 yds away and there are the omnipresent skunks, possums, stray cats, stray dogs, and coyotes that roam around here. Most of the time I leave them alone but if they are predating on my chickens or ducks I will shoot them.

We have them penned up most of the time. what I didn't show was there is a 7x8 space with 2x4 framed enclosure that has 1/2inch wire mesh all around it that they roam in also.

I need to go talk to the guy that owns the land behind me as I want to put some chicken wire on my side of his T-post fence so I can let them free range a bit during the day without worrying about them going into his field.

The pond is gorgeous!

Our bears were terrible, climbing a 6ft chain link fence and trying to rip open the wooden coop. We have foxes too and they maimed one chicken, but our constant presence around the house and our dogs in the yard mostly kept them away. Sounds like you've got your hands full, or are going to have your hands full!

We have had the ducks for a long time and I usually do a check at night before bed to make sure nothing is in the yard that will harm them so I just add a sweep of the coop area also. I am also going to put up some game cameras so i can see if something is coming by later in the evening and I can take care of it before it becomes an issue.

my sister lives out in the sticks, and there are various wild felines. her chickens slowly feed the wildlife, there isn't much you can do about it.

she has pictures after one raid by a wildcat from inside the coop. bloodspatter across one of the walls that would make that CIS guy pitch a massive tent.

Redwood shoe bench

This was tricky because there are no visible fasteners and no metal fasteners of any kind.  All wood and glue using Festool Dominos.

~~5x30mm (104 dominos,208 mortises)
~~8x40mm (20 dominos,40 mortises)

Pics are before and after Danish Oil (natural) finish. The one on my porch is after a couple days where the color change is even more dramatic.

Redwood is very difficult to work with because it is so soft. Kinda like balsa wood. This was all from redwood 2x4s that I ripped down, re-dimensioned square, and routed 1/16" radius on the edges to give a nice feel.

If it's just oil..dont let city rain hit it!..

I also did the red on red on my deck.

Damn that is some nice woodworking guys.

So I have a question. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on some better equipment and thought I would get some input from you guys.

Looking to get a cabinet saw anyone use a Grizzly or any other 10" cabinet saw? Looking for some real peep reviews from people I trust.

Also planers anyone got one they like?

I think I am finally going to get my workshop built and need some toys to fill it in and my Bosch 10" job site saw is great but looking for some upgrades.

Oh yeah shop is going to be a 30x50x14 or maybe 16. With a 10x50 overhang on the side with concrete under everything. Going to have 2 12 ft roll-up doors one in front and one in back for humid airflow and one walk inside door. Also going to run power straight from the pole so I will have 200amp service. I am getting giddy thinking about it.

Used cabinet saws are usually a better deal. The difference between a new grizzly/jet/import whatever and a used old US made anything is small and the old saw is probably cheaper and better made. The fence is the most important part of a table saw and whatever your new saw comes with is likely going to be replaced by a vega, beissmeier etc. Used saws are sometimes worth buying just for the fence.

The exception to this is Sawstop. They only magic they have is the safety factor of the blade emergency brake. If your going to pony up for a new saw, they're the only ones that have a feature not available anywhere else. They do come unused sometimes.

There are also a lot of pretty cool workstation builds built around jobsite saws like yours that greatly increase their usefulness while making well organized storage that can be wheeled into a corner when. You dont need it.

+1 for saw stop. I wish I had spent the money, would still have parts of two fingers.:mad

Sounds like a great set-up!

I do have experience with a Griz cabinet saw with a wide table and an 8 foot out-feed table (shop built). I liked it pretty well. It had a digital angle indicator for the blade tilt that I found not to be very accurate, even after zeroing it. That's about my only complaint. Easy enough to work around, but you shouldn't have to.

If I were in the market for a cabinet saw today, I'd bee looking hard at the SawStop. Apart from the safety feature, it's a really good saw.

I don't own a planer but have used a grizzly planer like this one extensively:

g1033x-7828ccd264af76ddd66a6908079dc870.jpg

It was smooth cutting, with virtually no chatter or tear-out. Used it with oak, maple, poplar, mahogany, all with similar good results.

I looked at sawstop but man they are proud of them. Maybe if I could find a lightly used one I might be able to swing it. I have always liked the price/features of Grizzly stuff.

That planer is probably out of my budget was thinking more along the lines of a bench planer.

I think I will have to troll Craigslist a little farther out to see if anything comes up over here anything within 120 miles is hard to get good stuff. May have to look in the Houston or Dallas areas to get a good idea but hate to drive that far in case it is a bum deal.

downloaded Blender 2.8 (free) and started digital sculpting because Rona boredom. Doing weird sci-fi/face studies.

i should correct myself on the saws:
they'll all need to be adjusted to cut straight/square. some are easier than others

i'm super envious of the shop build. if you're planning the whole thing consider provisions for a large-ish rotary phase converter so you have 3 phase available. it opens up lots of possibilities on the used equipment market

karbon:
creepy, but cool you can do that. are you still making knives too?

I swear I don’t get a kickback on saw sales. That’s 3” thick 7075 T651 plate. The sawstop made quick work of it. They really are well made tools.

mike do you disable the safety brake or wear gloves when cutting metal on the sawstop?
