aliens for sure exist, but the chance of intelligent life is so outrageoulsy small that its doubtfull it happens all that often, and probably not at the same time epoch

I'll start believing it when motorcycle journalists start getting on board, taking a stand and calling out the motorcycle and auto manufacturers to take responsibility. Stop kissing their ass!!

In the meantime, what can you do as a good citizen of this planet?

-buy used cars and motorcycles.
-buy gas saving used cars: insight, old geo metro, etc.
-hypermile & gas saving mods to your car
-buy a used scooter and use it.
-start riding your bicycle
-eat locally grown food (less gas used to transport & its better 4 U. Less for fast food)
-eat less meat (less corn feed used... corn from petroleum based fertilizers)
-get shit done during the day and sleep at night.
-don't ride your zx10r... ride your Ninja 250
-don't buy new anything. buy used.
-don't "upgrade" like a chumpass. You don't need to. You're getting played.

About cars:
Cars have gotten bigger and with way more HP over the last couple decades. A Mustang 5.0 was considered "fast" back in the late 80's with 225HP. Now, we have 268HP Camry's with little increase in overall average MPG. Our increased efficiency is wasted with heavier vehicles and more HP. We don't need more HP. We need more 70 horsepower gas savers. The newest generation Honda Insight is a step backwards.

We don't have a problem with the environment. We have a problem with unrestrained capitalism.

well I believe in climate change I dont believ e man is making a major difference. weather patterns have always changed on their own. back in the early 80s sacramento used to get much hotter in the summers and colder in the winter than it does now. summer was hotter for longer periods and winter was not as wet. In the mid eighties winters became much wetter summer still got hot but it didnt stay above 100 for nearly as long than in previous years.
I think other factors like volcanic ash in the atmosphere has mure to do with things than man made factors. not to say we dont make an impact as stated every reaction has an opposite reaction I just dont believe we are the total cause of the shifting weather patterns.
 
I'm going to continue riding my ZX-10.

I believe the climate is changing because of (this time) burning fossile fuels.
If Yellowstone erupts or any other off the chart, volcanic action gets going...that will shift it to Natural cause.

What I do doesn't mean diddly...there are (and will always be) too many people doing too much damage.

It's too depressing...My ZX-10 lifts my spirits...I prefer to die with lifted spirits.
 
And china needs to stop bringing online a new coal plant EACH WEEK. Yes, a new coal plant a week

As for china, it's good to see them leading the green revolution as well. Do while those coal plants are a major drag, at the same time they are creating clean forms of energy that is basically embarrassing the US

Did you watch the Beijing Olympics and notice the air? They don't really have a choice.

I lived in L.A. when the air looked like that. Now it is WAY better. So don't dismiss the changes that the US have already implemented.

Secondly, China doesn't innovate, they steal a lot of their technology from other countries (mainly us). There is a good story in The Economist last month about it too. They are trying to do some of their own innovations now to save face :laughing

Which is a fraction of our per capita energy use. Why should they limit their economic growth? Why should they stop improving their quality of life? Why should they NOT lift millions out of subsistence and poverty? Trying to prevent people all over the world from improving their lot in life is a liberal pipe dream rooting in some ridiculous idea of the noble savage.

Best way to limit population growth? By providing education and building an economy. Best way to reduce carbon emissions? Unfortunately not by reduced energy use (which is the global economic engine), but by providing energy solutions that are carbon neutral... namely nuclear. Other alternatives where they make local sense, but none are scalable enough to take a bite out of coal and gas.

China is adding more cleantech to their grid than we are, and investing HEAVILY in cleantech (including nuclear) as an industry. They are working MUCH harder than the US to make sure that coal isn't a permanent solution to their power problem, but it's pretty hard to criticize them for using it as a bridge, ESPECIALLY considering our reliance on exactly the same fuel. We should be taking notes.

The job of journalists is to report. What you're proposing is advocacy, not journalism.

I think your question is too vague to do anything beyond push the typical discussion. I think pretty much everyone here believes in climate change, they just interpret the question as "Do you believe we must pursue the world according to Gore"?

There are too many preconceived notions and dogmas in play to make any objective discussion possible for most people.

That can be used to justify inaction for ANYONE with a job. Just fill in the blanks:

The idea that ones job is somehow separate from your civic responsibilities is false. Politics and your job is inseparable. This separation of civics and job is used to lower people's wages and enrich a few.

A UAW autoworker can be active in their union and go to protests to support other people's rights being trampled on. A UAW autoworker can talk to his co-workers about what's going on armed with FACTS and get them to take action.

A MOTORCYCLE JOURNALIST can do more USED MOTORCYCLE articles. He can do an article on "MOTORCYCLIST HYPERMILERS" like the 100mpg Ninja 250 guy. A journalist can do a lot.

That's wrong. There are established FACTS based on science. Scientists have done the studies and people and know the FACTS. When people know the facts, its their obligation to B UNOBJECTIVE and support the facts.

Objectivity is a lie. None of the major news outlets are completely objective. When you know the facts, its your responsibility to report on it and promote it.

I don't know dude...your attitude is what makes liberals so irritating to most Americans. I try to be more subtle.

And you obviously haven't looked through my body of work. I've written a lot about small motorcycles, motorcycles as commute vehicles, electric motorcycles, etc. If I'm not revolutionary enough for you, you should start your own eco-warrior motorcycle site.
