When guns become a fetish.

In my opinion, you guys are becoming the fringe element. A lot of people, myself included, want nothing to do with the people out there screaming their heads off, and just blowing all this bullshit up. Just like the left is doing, so is the right.

Now, you might assume I'm anti gun. I'm not. I'm working to get my rights restored, to own and work on guns. But I want nothing to do with the apparently crazy fuckers that keep getting on the news.

So, by defending ourselves against a specious supposition right out of HCI's handbook, you're saying we do?

Come on, get with the program here. The world is always going to have the poor and the nuts, however, defending one's self against supposition and hyperbole doesn't defacto make you a fringe or a nut.

What it does is put the shoe on the other foot and points out the REAL nuts.

The attitude, if you aren't with us, you're against us, well, some people want some minimum restrictions. Some people want no restrictions. It isn't the same. Varying degrees of agreement. The ones saying, if you aren't with us...want no restrictions.

I don't see that as making someone your enemy. Apparently, a lot of people do. For not being 100% in agreement with them.
Would you agree that more restrictions are coming? It seems pretty obvious to me, the way people seem almost gleeful when there is another school shooting. Seems to play right into their hands.

I just get tired of the cheap shots and willful ignorance. I said my piece and tried to clarify what I meant, but there are too many folks in here who take a scorched earth approach to guns and rights.

An example of that was Antarius post that you quoted. Comparing me to KKK, yes it was intentionally offensive, is the type of shit that happens in here that has gotten old years ago.

So, there is no point in continuing to participate in a thread if all that's going to happen is that you're going to take a ton of abuse for daring to say anything about somebody's sacred subject.

No, I compared you to the people -- including members of the KKK -- who just before they say something completely the opposite, they start by saying "I HAVE A BLACK FRIEND...." ....."butttttttttttt"

That's exactly what you did.

"I have guns, but...."

I'll leave this here for you to understand better:

I was, in the past, a middle of the road "Reasonable regulation" gun owner. I didn't mind registration for firearms, training requirements, even paying for and passing tests, I didn't mind magazine limits, bans on specific types, etc, etc, etc.

The problem is, the Liberal Democrats in this State (and everywhere really) aren't happy with "reasonable regulation." They continue to push and push and push, redefining terms to ban such broad swaths of firearms that it's insane, redefining exactly how many bullets I "need" by further limiting magazine limits after they've already done so, redefining the terms with which a manufacturer has to pass to even sell firearms -- and when they do so, they redefine them with such strictness and ridiculuous requirements that no one can. They do this over, and over, and over again.

You know what that's made me? Along with many thousands of other "middle of the road, reasonable regulation gun owners?"

It's made me a no longer middle of the road gun owner. Now I'm an absolutist just like the Liberal Democrats who are routinely, consisntently, and without fail trying to (and succeeding!) in taking more and more of my property and rights away from me. Over, and over again. Now I'm against any kind of registration, any kind of language on "assault weapons," any kind of limitations on magazine limits, and even against charging people money to excersize their right and own a firearm.

I didn't start out this way, I didn't even want to feel this way, but when you watch people widdle away and something for decades, never happy with what they did in the past and always trying to take more, eventually you say FUCK OFF and aren't willing to give them an inch, let alone the five miles they've already taken.

You probably didn't expect it, but this is one of the more sensical, reasonable arguments about gun control I've read on BARF. Thanks for that. It is actually really helpful for me in understanding what have seemed to me extreme positions.

Exactly! This! ^^^ I used to be in favor of gun control. It has now gotten to the point of ridiculousness. I'm still in favor of extremes. Private persons should not be able to own nuclear weapons, for example. I'm still in favor of banning firearms from convicted felons. But banning those convicted of ANY misdemeanor is absurd. Banning so called assault weapons is absurd. Banning magazine capacity is absurd. Causing rifles to have a bullet button to comply with laws is absurd. If the gun jams/double feeds there is no quick fix and you could be as good as dead. This latest round in California just screams lunacy. Prohibiting firearms for a misdemeanor DUI conviction? Huh? Where does that justification come from? Not to mention that gun control does not reduce crime or prevent violence. While correlation doesn't equal causation, one must ponder why the most violent places in the country have the strictest gun control laws. History has shown that registration eventually leads to confiscation.

Glad someone is reading these things from time to time. :)

Thanks!

Japan and Sweden oh so violent, and somalia oh so peaceful and polite

Places are violent, or not violent, bevause of culture, not guns. It's a dumb argument they I wish gun supporters would stop with. America is a violent culture, that's just how it is. Sweden isn't, And there's also very few guns. Same with Japan

Switzerland has lots of guns, and it's peaceful.

Personally I see fun related violence as an unfortunate byproduct of the 2A. The greater meaning for it make it a bad, but acceptable reason.

The larger reason for fun violence has more to do with our culture of violence, and IMO, while fringe, I think constant Abd unfettered advertising to the average American plays a huge part in it, bevause if the dehumanizing and poor effect on confidence or had

Well, if you just look at the violent culture that is the US, you find that the cities and states with the most strict gun control laws are also the most violent in regards to gun crimes, and vice versa. Now, it might be that the violent nature of those areas helped to usher in stricter gun control laws, and is not the cause of more violence. But one still has to look at the end result of what strict gun control has accomplished. It has only served to hinder people from the ability to protect themselves from harm. It has also created "gun free zones" that are vulnerable to attack. The laws have not stopped violent criminals.

BTW, I have to point out Chicago, with extremely restrictive gun laws and a very high rate of shootings.

The guns seized are primarily other Illinois counties with less restrictive laws, Indiana and Mississippi, which have the weakest gun control laws in the area.

Also New Orleans, in a state where there was a resolution reaffirming the 2nd Amendment, the murder rate per capita is twice Chicago and Oakland.

The part you seem to be taking for granted is that you seem to think that I believe in gun control. Right from that point you are mistaken and everything else that follows is compounding that error.

Now, I think that the open carry advocates are often people who seem to get off on how people react to seeing the guns they're carrying openly, thus the 'fetish' label for at least a portion of them. I also think they are idiots because they give plenty of fuel for the fire that is only going to lead to exactly what they claim to be against....more gun control.

Some on here have put the 'nutcase far-left liberal' label on me and others have bought into that, but the people on here who really know me could tell you that this label is a gross error.

Is it cuz they're so long, and hard, and black, and some guys conceal them in their pants, and they climax by pumping out hot lead?

Or do people like guns because it's a right, guaranteed by the founders of our great county. They keep us truly free, a person isn't truly free unless they own a gun. Our country is founded on gun rights. It's your civic duty to own a gun. Sure they're loud and scary and can hurt you, but that is power.

And like was said further back in the thread, the authorities don't like the average person owning a gun, because it makes them their equal. They want the guns because they want the power. You gotta ask yourself, why?

If the 2nd amendment falls, there will be no way to save the rest.

Don't tread on me motherfuckers!!!:flag:troy:flag

And Missouri. I once called the county sheriff to ask about private party sales, and he said I didn't have to do any paperwork at all when selling a gun to someone. I also had no responsibility to verify that the buyer wasn't a felon or anything.
