Whiskey

I actually like No.7. I just don't like gentle man jack for some reason. and JD single barrel, barrel proof is awesome!

I have zero issues with Jack Daniels. The Gentleman Jack is fine.

Well, the honey jack is mixed with the liqueur so its less than pure whisky and might raise eyebrows on a thread where people are tawkin about $150 bottles. I got to taste the Gentleman and Barrel Select too in the sampler. I liked 'em both..

I'm generally conservative about such things, surprise surprise. So I finally did taste the honey stuff, and once had the Fireball. When I went to BevMo the other day for other stuff, I noticed there are now quite a few flavored whiskys (shit like peanut butter, coconut, apple). Not yet as bad as flavored vodka,, which is out of control.

I just feel like I should be the one mixing the cocktails not a pre-made one. That's why I want to make some honey liqueur, which is quite easy. Its basically equal honey and water and neutral vodka or something like that. I'm just waitilng for some empty bottles to put it in. I already have simple syrup, spiced simple syrup, there is a honey simple syrup as well I want to make (without the vodka) the liqueur. I want to get some bulk 12 or 16 oz bottles to make this assemblage. I don't really like those ceramic wire stopper bottles but that's all I can find online.

Speaking of apple, I really have been drinking Lairds' AppleJack a lot. I read the other day that it's all the rage, so I happened to sync with trend for a split-second. It's pretty nice stuff and cheaper than whisky.

The United States has agreed to suspend tariffs on UK products including Scotch whisky and cashmere as both sides work to resolve a long-running dispute over Boeing and Airbus subsidies.

The tariffs will be suspended for four months, the United Kingdom and the United States said in a joint statement, as the two sides try to work out an agreement on the underlying dispute over commercial jets. The United Kingdom unilaterally suspended its own tariffs related to the spat on January 1.

So, we need help with the timing of when the price drop is actually reflected in the store...Damn, I'm stockin up.
OTOH, I see a profiteering opportunity for some stores who just won't lower the price without an informed consumer base.

Haven't really ventured into the Straight Rye's or blends, probably should sometime.

Meanwhile, here's the latest addition...
Glen Dronach 12Yr, matured in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks from Spain. :thumbup

I was interested to learn that "single malt" whiskey means it came from a single distillery. It doesn't mean that it came from a single batch or barrel. It's usually a blend of different batches from that distillery.

Whiskeys advertised as "blended" are from multiple distilleries.

I found a bottle Of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Strength today. The little corner liquor store by my house turns out to have an amazing selection of the various specialty JDs, including the very rare Eric Church.

Anyhow, this stuff is 131 proof. Neat, I can barely get past the medicinal smell as it sets my nose hairs on fire. I can't taste much of anything.

A big splash of water opened it up, and revealed some surprising complexity. Neat, it was undrinkable for me. A big splash of water and it's still quite... vibrant, but tasty.

I mixed myself a boulevardier with the stuff at full octane and hard a hard time for a while, but oddly enough, the more I drank the easier it got.

Anyhow, I'd recommend the non-barrel strength over the hi-test. It'd be more user-friendly.

Decided to finish my Macallan bottle this evening. I opened it up.. there were "like three fingers" left... And I do believe the taste is now watered down. :thumbdown

That's what you get when you keep it "open" for like a year.. was it... maybe even 1.3 years or so. [ It may have been a Christmas purchase. Or more?? ]

Anyhow, this stuff is 131 proof.
A big splash of water ..

Yeah I would definitely water down such liquor. In fact I think it is required

Happy belated Birthday! :Port

Thanks! My unofficial dtr-in-law always gives me booze at xmas and b-day giving me both a nice present and somebody to drink it with. It's kinda nice as I invented a cocktail just for her yesterday. She gave me a bottle of Dad's Hat Rye last time. Gave me a couple different Piscos over the years which I have summer fun with....

Single malts also must be batch distilled in a pot still and only from malted barley.

Also correct about Blended whisky. Can come from multiple sources. It is typically a blend of one or more single malt and one or more single grain whiskies. .
Typical blends are usually a combination of 30 or more malt whiskies, together with 5 or more continuous still grain whiskies. The single malts are usually 20-50% of the blend.
