I understand this is something humans with human digestive systems sometime experience.
A different animal indeed... Laphroaig 10 is like a clove cigarette, both exude an 20ft bubble around the person consuming them. Also both stick with a person long after they are done.
I recently acquired a taste for the peaty charm that is Islay whiskey. They work so well with a comfy chair and a good book. Working to build up my collection and see what various distilleries have to offer.
Really digging the bottle of cask strength Ardbeg Uigeadail I picked up. Very strong peat with a little sweetness. Very aggressive to your taste buds, don't follow it up with Glenfiddich, just tastes like water.
Buddy very generously gifted me a bottle of Lagavulin 16 cask strength. Dried fruit (sherry cask?) followed by a deep smoke finish with a little peppery spice. For some reason this bottle did not store well, corked and in the shade the flavors are noticeably muted 6 months after opening.
It's interesting how 1-2 drops of water in either of the above whiskey will totally change the balance of flavors. Really enjoy pouring 2 glasses and drinking them side by side, one with water and one without. My recent discovery is the Glencairn glass. It's crazy how glass shape can totally change how you smell and taste things.
I prefer to only drink scotch neat and only in a lowball glass. A few drops of water is acceptable to open the flavor with certain drams. I also prefer to smoke Cloves (Djarum Black) when I drink a lot of whiskey.
