Why do people hate on budbandit so much?

Hey Chief,

Lots of squidliness in the rearview mirror and plenty to come up ahead I am sure. Maturity is one of those things more elusive for some than others.

Mistakes, on the other hand, come more readily to some than others. Having a great deal of experience with such (one of my favorite quotes ever was from Kazumi, the GF who fell off the back, who said in a Japanese accent "Oh, fucktard? Oh, we can talk about that one. We have a experience!") can help one see when something unfortunate is going to reach out and bite someone in the ass.

The approach I take with being the loud mouth shock jock type is there for a couple reasons, one being that it matches my personality and the other being that it can help create interest and excitement about stuff that might not otherwise be very interesting. Yes, some will be turned off and others will be enraged and might take a disliking toward me and there are things like threads about whether or not I am an asshole and so on, but in the end I hope that there are more people entertained and informed than just pissed off and agitated.

As for the flatlander thing - actually came across that one first in some sci fi by a guy named Larry Niven - great author, btw. And yes, as a Kansan I realize that I am a flatlander ;-) However, my weekend home (to the extent that other obligations permit etc) would be the twisties of the SC mountains and thus sometimes I get to feeling more like one of the Mountain Folk than the Flatlanders. In my rants, I would usually use Mountain Folk to refer to both real residents as well as those drivers familiar with the hills and how to drive in the twisties while a flatlander would be some guy from Santa Clara or Milpitas who is all whiteknuckled out at the helm of his minivan struggling to make it to the top of 9 without shitting his pants. It is pretty easy to tell who belongs to which group when you go riding in the hills. Some pretty amazing driving from the Mountain Folk as well.

Budman,

I appreciate your welcoming me in your playground and am glad that you see a lot of my bullshit in the way that it is intended, infotainment rather than vandalism and spite.

Cheers,
Jason

One can never forget ButtBandit's post of witnessing a rider go down, leaving him screaming in pain, and then boasting about it on BARF...

But should you criticise him in the same condescending manner he makes his rants, he calls YOU the E-thug:hand

After careful study of the enigma that is budbandit and the hate associated with his seemingly misguided diatribe I have determined that the cause of the hatred is associated with the hidden desire of the reader to be more like the budbandit. The reader associates with the ranting but, failing to have the capacity to speak ones truth publicly, their inner child chooses to hate on the budbandit so as to be "in" with the larger hater crowd.

Well..... it's that or your just secretly homosexually attracted to him and that scares your inner child so, out of fear (fight or flight), the reader chooses to lash out at the object of his desire.

I understand your approach and would encourage you to continue in the same fashion. I still don't know if the message gets across as well as it could, but I sure wouldn't be as interested in reading it if the post was toned down. I'll repeat something I posted earlier. You earn a lot of my respect for the time and effort you put into to helping new riders in the real world. What happens on an Internet forum is just noise. It's what you down in the real world thaqt counts.

As for the flatlander thing, there's some history behind that. Quite funny actually, but should only be shared over the beer you buy me. :teeth

Well, the leathers do kind of highlight his qualities. ;)

BB has been one of my most adored fans since years passed by.
Read him but ride with him.

In a way I am flattered that folks view me as something worth discussing and debating although it is distressing to find nasty little worms under the rock, such as when people you don't know announce that they dislike you. ich were not even aimed at them or intended to offend anyone, but such is water under the bridge.

Sad that so much energy and attention is paid to the nature of certain board members instead of some of the cool aspects of riding. I [/B]

Such is the nature of the modern world wherein common courtesy , truth
common sense and the ablility to deall with basic constructive criticism are in increasingly short supply.

Look at it this way BB, are those who form a hard and fast opinion of you based upon nothing more than phosphor on a screen worth committing any degree of worry to? Are they indeed even worth knowing? Perhaps
so , but if they're so shortsighted as to discount someone or form an active dislike based solely upon an online persona........welll..........SHRUG.

Don't sweat it dude , if your rhetoric keeps one newbie from making a potentially fatal mistake it rather puts the lie to those who indulge themselves in their own brand of hypocrisy by sniveling about your posts.

In this day and age, the online world has a greater impact on the offline world than people think.

It can impact your business, how people perceive you, if you get a job or not (yes, people google for your name when looking at your resume).

As time goes on, the two are going to be even more intertwined. More and more people are online each day, and the electronic world is becoming a major force in most peoples lives. The older crowd might not see it, the younger crowd definately can.

So, as much as people hate it, what you say here impacts what people think of you in real life. Deny it all you want, but if it isn't apparent now, it will become more so down the road.

The world is changing, has been changing, and will continue changing no matter how many people ignore it, deny it, or shun it. To a growing segment of society, who you are online is a reflection of who you are in real life. If those two fail to match up quite a bit, people wonder what you are hiding, or why you "aren't being yourself."

Guys, your taking it out of context.

Those groups at Alice's to which I speak of don't make an effort to ignore outsiders and us solo riders. Nor do they make an effort to be outwardly friendly to strangers, nor should they.
If that observation is wrong, so be it.

As classic antisocial as I am. Group rides I hang out on the fringes staying out of the socializing. I'm allways getting approached by solo rides curious about what's goin on.
Not only from riders but from joggers, bicyclists, drivers and locals.
I allways say it's the Rainbow MC group out for their weekend ride. The fact that some are holding a fro fro coffee drink, helps along the story :laughing
They ask if I'm with the group. I answer no I'm with homeland security :laughing

Seriously it's true people want to meet the group. It isn't easy if their isn't anyone in the group receptive to walk ups.

Hmm Hate BB, ah no hatin here.

I don't think the group feels they need to adopt every stray that rolls up. It isn't like they are playing bingo. As I recall, there were quite a few dumps on the BB ride in the not so distant past. It seemed like it was every week where somebody in one of the splinter groups had an ooops.

A new rider can "earn his bones" with the group just by posting on SBR in a polite respectful way. A few thousand humble posts along with a few photo rides with Andy should get your dancing ticket stamped.

Have a nice Memorial Day.
