Why does Costco check your receipts at the door?

The irony of that is that Worldstar doesn't even show fights anymore.

Huh? Of course they do. There are videos of fights posted today.

I was trying to buy a phone and I was being treated like I was some bum off the street wanting to see a necklace at a jewelry store. I ended up wanting to purchase it but the phone counter person wouldn't give it to me, instead she escorted me to the checkout counter. I paid then I started walking out with my bag.

The receipt-checker called after me, something like, "I need to see your receipt." I responded, "No thanks." She stated, "I have to check your receipt!" I responded, "No you don't," and walked away. She said to my back, "You don't have to be so rude!"

I bought my next phone on Amazon.

It's very simple. Nobody should have to give up their rights simply because a large organization mistrains their staff. It is not the one who rejects receipt checking that is the asshole, it is the employer for setting up their employees for failure. It is entirely reasonable to ask someone to see their receipt and entirely reasonable to say no. If you feel I am being a dick for preventing someone from doing their job, then I am a dick for rejecting to be searched without a warrant.
 
The rights angle is kind of void when it comes to private businesses. Now if they only checked one specific group, then there might be a problem...unless your religion supports bigotry, then you're fine.

Not at all true. Can you give me what rights I have legally given up when I shop at a retailer? We've established they legally can't stop me if I don't want to show my receipt (all non-club stores), so what rights are you referring to?
Yes they can ask me to leave but not without the stuff I've already purchased.

Y'all equating some minor inconvenience (and loss prevention method) to the Feds busting down your door in the middle of the night to make sure you didn't cut the tag off your mattress.

Actually consumers are allowed to cut the tag off the mattress.

And they are the same, as you can legally decline both without issue, unless the poorly informed employee wants to make it an issue. I can't get any clearer. They are fine to ask. I am fine to decline. Who's life am I a making worsE? The mis-trained, mis-informed employee? I'm supposed to inconvenience myself because a billion dollar company sucsk? Nope
