I don't think its that simple. The intended purpose wasn't to hear people bitch and brag. The fact that's what is happening is fascinating to me.

Will Ferrell's comment sums it up the best.

Guy comments "Just got into Standford, stoked!" and he gets 2 'likes' and a friend that calls him 'nerd!'

Girl comments "Starbucks!!" with a pic of her coffee. She gets 25 "likes" and numerous comments.

Just the world we're in today and its odd.

To OP's point: think back to tribal man and the extended family and circle, when all the women clustered to raise and teach the children while the men were out hunting and such. Making a comfortable home, making good alliances with other women to watch out for each other and their children pretty much explains it all. The bonds between the women were strong. The men had their alliances as well, but much of their daily life was outside of the village, not in it.

Because I study California Indians, I find the phenom of the males-only sweathouse to be interesting. There are several ways to look at it. On the one hand, you get the sense of patriarchial exclusion. But, by the same token, they were never as close to the women as the women were to each other, more than likely....and maybe to the women, it was just fine to let the dudes have their own mancave.

I don't have that issue with my FB feed. If anything it's non-stop post about people being stoked on their next trackday, surf trip, orgy, and what they had for lunch. I don't get the whole posting about lunch thing, but the foodies get pretty stoked on it.

It's not obvious BECAUSE you think its obvious. That's over simplifying saying it's a form of communication. Zuch didnt create it so people can post pictures of their toes in the sand bragging about a vacation while in debt up their ass.

Saying it's just for communication means you are obviously not getting my point.
 
FB's purpose is to collect information that can be used for marketing and advertising and sold to companies for that purpose. It also exists to sell advertising itself. Anything else that you think is its purpose really only constitutes the bait to attract the information. If it's effective at doing that, your judgment is irrelevant.

actually, it's my fault. every time you ask for advice, you ignore it even when it's good advice or make up reasons to ignore it. sorry i tried to have a dialogue; won't happen again.

Mike I get what YOU are saying but 1) it's not a fact. 2) I'm talking about the phenomenon of why people have to post the TYPE of information they do, not simply that they do.

I'm really tired of people on the internet especially that just because they have a strong opinion on something they think its fact and attack those that disagree.

I'm a paychologist, I'm always looking for the WHY not the BECAUSE.

He created it to make money and get laid. I enjoy it for the ability to stay connected with my huge extended family, distant friends and the frequent underwear/swimsuit selfies of the hot ladies I know.
