Wine Country Ablaze

The evac order for the rest of Larkfield was just lifted. They will allow access from now until 5:30pm today and then 8-5:30pm tomorrow.

Sounds like everything is pretty under control? Is anyone able to find out when Mark West Springs Rd will reopen?

I think CalFire said they should have complete containment by the middle of this week.

I took a little "tour" the other day and there is still a lot of work going on. The damaged and burnt trees near the roafs need to be cut down and mulched, a lot of new poles and power lines, and phone lines and cable need to be strung, and I would imagine there might still be a bunch of fire crews mopping up here and there. Unfortunately, almost all this work takes place on the roadways. A bunch of them will probably stay closed for a few more days, if not a week.

So finally back to work today. We've got phones and internet and power, and a shit ton of emails asking "Is our wine ok?"

But whatever, I got a job, I got my place, I'm good.

What winery do you work at? Might be able to swing by...

Madrone Estate at Valley of the Moon in Glen Ellen.

I'm off Thursday but will be here all this week and next week so come on in and ask for me (James, don't ask for Koi :p)

Free wine tasting to BARFers and BARF discounts apply for 5 star Koi(James) is awesome Yelp reviews :shhh

James actually is awesome at his job, so the reviews are easy to write.

I rode up to my dad's place in Middletown from Lafayette yesterday. Wonderful ride, but heartbreaking to see the burnt hills.

On the eastern side of Silverado trail the hills are burnt to the edge of the wineries. It looks like the western side of Mt St Helena is burnt, with patches of burn here and there along 29.

There is also pockets of foul smells from the Yountville district all the way to Middletown. Interestingly, there is the smell of burned marijuana past the mountain. Somebodies crop must have burned near there.

We're open people, come on up!!!

Are you working this weekend?

Rolling :ride the charred remains, and big saves, here in the wine country.

I did find this winery in Glen Ellen, max total of three tasters during my visit.

Did you at least go in for your barf discount and wine tasting?

We ate in Kenwood at Cafe Citti last night. They reopened on Friday and had a line out the door last night. Delish raviollis! Rode the FJR over the hill with another barfer. Good times!

^ Did the Kenwood Inn survive?

When do we wanna do a support wine country group ride?

I like food and there are great restaurants and roads.
