So the CEO is a bit fucked up. So people will boycott Barilla costing them at least .01% drop in sales, which the CEO will make up for by firing a bunch of workers to improve the bottom line. He will get a raise. Who won?

I don't advocate useless boycotts, but pray tell what is the difference between "Disagreeing" with them and hating them?

They want the same rights as other people. This guy doesn't think they should have those rights. He's a hateful bigot. But no, he just "Disagrees" with them to the point where he feels the need to publicly announce it.

He sounds like quite the loving guy.

And it's not "hip" to support gay marriage as much as it isn't "hip" to have supported interracial marriage.

It's weird, though. He apparently supports same sex marriage. I'm not sure how much of a hateful bigot this whole debacle makes him, but I'm going to pass on Barilla from now on.

Not that it's going to affect their bottom line one bit. Chick-fil-a had lines out the door after they made their homophobia public.

I'm sure if you asked the right questions of the CEO of all the pasta companies, you'd find an opinion with which you don't agree. Probably all the CEOs in fact.

You: "Well, Mr. CEO, so far, all of our opinions are in sync. Just one final question. Do you prefer to orient your toilet paper in the 'over' or the 'under' position."
CEO: "Under, of course."
You: "Are you fucking serious? That's it, I'm never buying another BIC pen!"
 
Making buying decisions based on the political posture of the owners is kinda silly, as the only difference between this guy and any other business owner is that this guy was stupid enough to public state his prejudices. Doesn't mean the other guys you take your money to don't have similar or worse prejudices.

Whenever this shit comes up, I think about the Godfather scene about business vs. personal. My purchases are a business transaction, based on business decisions. Just because I wouldn't invite someone to my house for dinner, doesn't mean I won't do business with them. If you excluded every one with differing views from you from your transactions, you'd be transacting alone a lot of the time.
