2018 Winter Olympics

I don't even have cable, but I enjoy hearing about the drama on BARF... :laughing

Seriously what is the point of doping in curling. :wtf

If you can make a 44 pound rock feel like a 20 pound rock you'd likely have a control advantage.

Not really sure that's how Meldonium works, it's more for endurance athletes... :dunno

It's the same thing Maria Sherapova was banned from tennis for, and looking at a list of athletes banned for using it most of them are eastern euros, but there is one "notable" American that tested positive, Max Holt, a USA volleyball player in the 2016 Rio games. He was allowed to play because he took the stuff before it was banned.

what a night for USA! Hockey, curling...but I think the most exciting thing to happen was the women's pair cross country win. What an exciting race! back and forth through the match. I can't believe our ladies outsprinted norway (maybe it was sweden) for the gold. great race!

That was awesome. It's nice to see the US doing well in sports "we" haven't really been known to do well in in the past. Sure, "we" haven't done as well in some sports (ice skating, men's alpine skiing) as in the past, but I don't think the US has much to be embarrassed about. US women have been really doing well in particular... bobsled, alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, hockey, etc. Good stuff.

I was surprised to hear of the poor support the US women's hockey players were getting from the US Hockey federation despite their ranking.
Receiving as little as $1000/month and having to work two jobs.

Once again, how is curling still on? How gawd damn long does it take to win a match? It's like playing risk I tell you!

To their credit, they changed that. It was why they threatened to boycott the IIHF world champs last year. USA hockey and them came to an agreement for a much better situation for them.

quote:

The women wanted a $68,000 salary and the same treatment that the men get, including the ability to bring a guest to competitions, business class airfare and disability insurance. They also wanted benefits like child care, maternity leave and the ability to compete in more games throughout the year.

"We're not talking a bunch of specifics in the contract but whatever the men's team gets it'll be on par with what we get from now on," national team member Monique Lamoureux told CNNMoney.

:rofl

Why is country leaderboard decided by medal count?

Seems to me whoever is the leading country is the one with the most gold medals. The country with 10 golds and 2 silvers is better than the country with 5 golds and 15 silvers.

Maybe that's just me. :dunno

well it depends how many points you mentally assigned to Gold, Silver, Bronze.

1. Norway
2. Germany
3. Canada
4. USA
5. Netherlands
6. France

Eh, that's what I'm saying. Points assigned to medals means less to me than actually winning and being the best of any given event.

In MotoGP, F1 and every other motorsport its total points that determines the champ and not just wins.
